I adore my mom, but I wanted different for my girls. I want them to see me eating healthy...not low fat or dieting. I want them to see me working out and loving my body...not obsessing over the number on the scale and being upset with how I dislike my body.
.... Last week after 3 or 4 days of watching me, she climbed into the van after school all excited and said "MOM! Guess what! I ate SO HEALTHY today!! I had ## of fruit and a yogurt and...." and finished listing all the healthy foods and activities she had that day. And then she asked if I was proud of her. THIS is what I want for my children. I want them to be PROUD of themselves and their HEALTHY choices. Not ashamed of their bodies or their weight or their diets. I want them to want to be healthy and to want to eat healthy.
This brought a tear to my eye. I LOVE this so much. So happy for you and your daughter! My little one is my biggest motivator. When she sees me suited up in athletic gear and asks if I am going to go exercise or cheers me on in a race and I slow down to give her some love on the way to the finish line (if she's not already with me in her stroller), I know I am doing it right. You are SO doing this right!!! <3<316 -
This past Thursday night I pulled 3 pairs of jeans from my closet that I couldn't wear 3 months ago. One not only could I wear them, I did wear one of them to work on Friday.23

I grew up with a very obese mother who had gastric bypass surgery when I was 13. She has struggled with ups and downs in weight since then but is doing amazing. However, much of my life was spent watching her struggle and talk about being fat/overweight/on a diet/etc. I grew up eating out all the time and drinking nothing but soda and koolaid and not putting too much thought into my eating habits.

I am a week and a half into this 10 week program and since changing up my schedule to accommodate morning workouts, I've gotten to actually hang out with my 8 year old in the morning. She greats me as I return from my workouts and watches me as I cook my breakfast and chug my water and prepare and pack my lunch and snacks for the day. Welcome to this thread! It's my absolute favorite post on MFP.
Way to set them up for a lifetime of health and fitness! It's so important to do that when they're young, and I bet they'll be wanting to run around and work out with you in no time!!7 -
I hit the 50lb weight loss!!!49

I walked up steps using both legs. Normally, I would lead with a step on my left foot. Now, I can easily take the stairs left, right. Also, I can plank. At my current weight, I still have a long ways to go. But, that is monumental. I have not been able to hold myself up. I am at a good 15 to 20 seconds!! I physically don't hurt as much any more!!!!!!34

I fit into a store bought Halloween costume this year. One of my goals checked.24

1) I was ID'd earlier this week as I wanted to buy some solvent. When I'd stopped laughing, calmed down and picked myself up off the floor, I asked if the sales assistant was joking. But she wasn't, she was deadly serious. So I either look nearly three decades younger than I really am, or she's a really bad judge of age (and I thought that the grey hair would have given it away). My teenage daughter thought it was hilarious.
2) Had to be assessed for a neurological condition yesterday by my doctor. He said that I had really good muscle tone (he didn't add the "for your age" bit that I was expecting ). That was a comment I was quite happy to receive. I don't normally like what I hear from doctors.25 -
Victory....not in the moment but the moments that followed were the victory. I have been on this journey since February 2016....last night/yesterday was the first time in that entire time that I had what I would call a "binge". Mindless eating. I was fully aware of the why . I was making a conscious choice. what followed was a victory in my heart and my head.... waited for an hour .... i felt physically ill... then I put on my shoes and my coat at 9:30 at night and I went for a run. I ran as fast as I could... I walked...I ran... no tears of regret...just confident knowledge that the food did NOT bring comfort but the sound of my pounding feet and easy breathing.....that was comfort. True comfort. No turning back now.36

MrsPinterest34 wrote: »This is a weird NSV but I'm just now realizing that that I'm losing inches faster than pounds. I have not stopped losing inches even when my weight stalls for the entire month or I lose just 1 pound in the month. I'm okay with this. I'm not doing weight training yet just cardio through walking. I do plan to start weight training when I reach my goal.
Congratulations! I would encourage you to not wait for your goal for weight lifting...if I had it to do over...I would have started at the very beginning...the resistance training has reshaped my body....and helped. All the best~!10 -
I had two just today and i am feeling good! Made passing up the cupcake in the airport so much easier.
So first while waiting to board my plane, I found myself sitting "Indian style" (really wish I knew a different name to use). I use to get so jealous of people that could sit all kinds I ways in airport and airplane chairs.
Second, getting in my seat I didn't worry for a second if the seatbelt would fit. I've never had it not fit but I was at the end of it and super close to needing an extender. Today, I didn't worry and there was 7 or 8 inches of extra!!!
It's amazing what a 40lb loss can do.25 -

That's wonderful! And it's now called "criss cross applesauce" with kids.

Or just "sitting cross-legged".18

After a 46 lbs. weight loss my upper arms are really flabby. I finally started to do a little bit of weight lifting. So far I've lost 1/2 inch from each arm. Super happy.31

Lotus - although lotus is a soles up yoga pose it is essentially the same thing as "Indian style".

Could put my belt one hole smaller this morning.
Starting to cycle with heart rate zone in 4 not in zone 5 all the time16 -
Woke up this morning & it became apparent I was on a "bad" day. Looked in the mirror & just felt like a heffalump..as if I was back at my starting weight. Couldn't see my progress, or that my body looks better than it has in years.
Last thing I wanted to do was my workout. Bargained with myself that I've a physically busy day ahead of me....told myself that if I needed a break then i didn't have to do it...then through what can only be described as whining self pity "What's the point anyway?".
Then I remembered this thread. All your NSVs & how some (I'd imagine most at some point!) of you didn't feel like sticking to your goals but went ahead with it anyway & felt better for it. Can even include myself in that as I've been here more than a couple of times myself...
Gave myself a shake & knew that somewhere in the world, some of you would be just starting a workout or saying no to food you were tempted by, reached a fitness goal, got into smaller clothes, smiled as someone complimented you or any number of the inspiring stories I've read on here. So, I did my workout. And I do feel better.
TLDR: Your stories continue to inspire me & so many others, thank you - please never stop telling them58 -
I was joking around with a co worker and flexed my bisep at him. He later texted me that he was blown away at how good my guns look.27

Recently got into a pair of pants that never went past my hips (I didn't try them on when I bought then and they've been in a drawer since lol). Saw my mom a few days ago and she said I look better than I have in years. Two of my adult nieces called me "HOT!" over the weekend lol. And my adult son lifted me in the air and threatened to toss me over his shoulder.32

Weight has been flying off this week. I upped my calories to a more livable 1 1/2 lb loss per week (1850 calories) and it seems to be giving me less stress. I have found that if my goal is too low, once I realize I'll be over it, I just blow my calories for the day. This number is more realistic and has actually been more motivating.
Also my personal trainer says that my push-ups have already improved in the 2 weeks I've been seeing her! And I did modified burpees and didn't think about people looking at me. Makin' gains35 -
