So my family reunion is coming and I am super excited!! We will be out in the wilderness, hiking 3 miles everyday, canoeing, swimming and having a great time. Problem is that their is SOOO much food!! Its like one eating festival with fish, fried chicken, shrimp, beans, salads, tons of deserts, meat all around and overall its not healthy. I'm a vegetarian but I still care. Its a mix of camping food with all around soul food. Should I have a good time and not care of what I eat or should I play it safe? After we eat almost every meal, my family and I do something active. We usually go hiking for 3-4 hours and have a good time. I'm going to work it off but I don't wanna worry about what I eat.

Just stay away from the fired foods and maybe only drink water so you save a few calories. If you are still being active I do not see why you can't join in. Also if you are bringing food as well bring something just for you to keep in your tent for breakfast or like granola bars or powder for protein shakes, and bring food that is healthy so you know you have at least one healthy option while eating dinners.

I suggest taking the time with your family. A few days off shouldn't be the end all. Also with the physical activity, you will probably burn off a good portion of what you consumed. The stress of avoiding foods or playing it safe might just sabotage you in the end.

Have fun! Enjoy yourself! Then get back on track once you return.

Why can't you bring some of your own food? If you are a vegetarian, it sounds like most of what they are eating will be off limits anyway, so bring some healthier versions for yourself. And, of course, splurge a little!! Sounds like you will more than burn it off...
    Have fun!

Its in Chicago, I'm flying down. I'll literally be in the woods and the nearest grocery store is an hour away. Its in a small town so I doubt I will be near a organic market. lol

Keep in mind that you don't have to eat huge portions! Family reunions are rare events, so you can indulde within reason. Watch portions, bring some of your own food and have fun working it off!

In my opinion, since it's such an active family reuinion, I wouldn't worry about the food. I'd pay attention to my hunger, make sure I didn't overeat, and only eat what I really LOVE.

    Have fun!!

I'm just bummed that I can't eat the fried chicken cuz I went vegetarian and that is so bad for you!! I'll take fiber pills so I can flush all the food out. As far as portions go, should one spoonful be good or two?
