What is the most supportive thing someone has done for you on your journey?

I know when it boils down to it, only we can male or break our journey. It is still nice though when someone else does something to show their support of our decisions.
Mine actually happened this morning. My boyfriend does not understand anything about calories or calorie counting. I've tried to explain it to him but his eyes just glaze over. He is lucky that he has the innate ability to only eat when he's hungry and not overeat.
Normally, I eat a bowl of cereal before I take him to work. This morning I woke up to him handing me a bowl of cereal in bed because he wanted to let me sleep in. It was sweet, so I figured I'd just write this one off because I couldn't log what he gave me.
On our way out the door he pointed out a piece of paper where he had the weights for the cereal and milk. When I asked him why he did that he just shrugged and said "well I see you weighing your food all the time and I don't understand it, but it seems important to you so I figured it didn't take that much work to do it for you."
It felt nice to know that he supports me even though he has no clue what I am doing. He knows it's important to me and that's enough reason for him to help out.

He sounds like a great guy and very supportive. My husband will weigh my ingredients if he makes a meal for me and I appreciate it. He isn't into tracking calories himself, but he knows how important it is to me.8

Well that's a bit adorable.
My closest friend bought me my last fitness watch upgrade as a combined Christmas and birthday present the Christmas before last. I had it on my Amazon wish list more for my own reference than the expectation someone would actually buy me it. Made my eyes leak.17 -
That was wonderful of him!! I'm glad you shared your story. When I saw the title of your thread I actually started thinking of what I would write. I think acceptance goes a long way. For me, acceptance and love from my boyfriend, friends, and family of me before starting my health/weight loss journey meant a lot and helped my gain a confident, more empowered attitude.
When I gained weight it presented itself in some unflattering ways (my stomach is my most difficult area). I told my boyfriend I was disappointed that I couldn't find my one piece swimsuit for a vacation and he said to just pack my two piece. He didn't even give it a second thought.
There's nothing wrong with encouraging someone on their health journey, but you can tell when someone genuinely accepts you just as you are- extra weight and all.13 -
Thats the cutest thing in the world LOL. I have nothing to add about my own....Not to be a downer Iv just been happily on my own the entire time XD Just wanted to say awwwww6

What a great post, OP. My husband has always been supportive of my trying to lose weight, get in better shape, whatever it was I was working on to feel better about myself. But 3 years ago, I took up swimming which takes much more time out of my life than a quick run does. He has allowed me to make my own mental and physical health my priority. Most nights, I get home a little after 7pm. No, he doesn't make dinner, but I get ZERO complaints if it takes me a while to get it onto the table. He knows how important exercise has become to me (it wasn't important for the first 22 years of our marriage) and he encourages me to go. He also never complains about my dinners, which are 6/7 nights out of a Cooking Light magazine or cookbook...14

My husband has become willing to try any and all of my "weird" food experiments. Like cauliflower "mac & cheese" (which had neither mac, nor cheese). He even pretends he likes them if they turn out terrible (Although in that example, we both agreed the cauliflower "mac & cheese" was delicious!)
Also, for a while I was abstaining from alcohol entirely. It was really hard on my weekly pool league nights because everyone...literally everyone...drinks at league. We're in a bar playing pool for 4+ hours! Often people buy rounds for the entire team so for a while I was getting left out. But one day, a teammate bought me a virgin shooter- sprite with a splash of grenadine, in a shooter glass. She said that just because I'm not drinking, that didn't mean I should be left out of the team drinks. I had never complained about being left out so it really meant a lot that she thought to do that for me, and it made me feel a lot more confident about choosing not to drink.20 -
If my DH is grilling he’ll weigh out the protein and let me know how much each portion weighs before cooking. If he’s made a dish with lots of ingredients I’ll come into the kitchen to find a stack of nutrition labels waiting for me. Weighing the protein I think I asked him to do for me once and he just continued to do it. The labels, I never asked, I think he just saw me doing it so does it. It’s not having to ask that I find a sweet gesture.16

Years ago, my ex husband told me, “stop complaining and get in shape!” He was right. I had the time. I just had to shut up and do it.5

Thank you! It's things like that, that really make me appreciate him. Especially since I've been in relationships that were on the other aide of the spectrum.2 -
OP - your super cute story literally brought a tear to my eye. How sweet. My hubs realized I'm serious about my home gym in the garage and has stopped leaving bags of grass seed on my yoga mat and stopped leaving the lawn mower under my squat rack. And I don't find his dry-cleaning hanging on my bench press bar (maybe sometimes). It's the little things.....15

I was out for a walk and I get this...26 -
My DH definitely has been supportive every day since I started 3 years ago..he still weighs everything for me when he makes something for me (I do the same for him)..we workout together (same time anyways we do our own things)...he helps me make healthier choices but never criticizes me when I don't. In fact he encourages me to not deprive myself as I work hard..but sometimes I have a hard time just enjoying myself at the same time...he helps with this immensely!
OP that was the sweetest and most considerate thing..he is a keeper for sure.4 -
Awwww that is so sweet!!!
My husband is very supportive of me. We like to eat out and do often, so what he does for me is always offers to go places that have calorie information available (sorry wonderful mom and pop restaurants we miss you).
If he suggests something, he will look online to be sure I have options that I like there that have good, solid nutrition facts.
Guessing is just not worth it to me any more unless it's a very special occasion!4 -
So many great stories here about support! I would say my favorite support is when my loved ones come out to watch me compete in my endurance events. My husband, best friend and neighbor brought bicycles to my first marathon so they could meet me at different parts of the route to cheer me on and provide food.
My sister even traveled with me to another state to hang out for a 9 hour ultramarathon. She was my coach, my time keeper, my fuel supplier and my voice of reason as I pushed to earn my first 50k.
Even my dog is a fan of the new focus on exercise - he happily joined me for his first 5k last month!
All good vibes as I push my crazy endurance to new limits - next up is my first 50 miler ultra.

The most supportive thing anyone did on my journey? That makes me think. During my journey, I think I'll have to attribute 'most supportive' to @staffordshire62 . Before my mfp phase of the journey started, I think it's a tie between my Dr and my daughter @exitbuddy . The one motivated me to exercise and lose weight, the other motivated me to get out of the rut of gorging on donuts every Sunday morning.6

The biggest support I've gotten was from the case managers at the hospital I was in earlier this year for a foot infection (which has since fully healed). They had also found early signs of CHF (diastolic variety, which means the heart is too strong to completely fill with blood when it pumps) so they helped with lots of paperwork to get me financial help to not only help pay for my hospital stay, but to get a cardio scholarship for cardiac rehab to help treat the CHF (the scholarship pays for 18 classes). They're also currently looking for ways to pay for a year's gym membership for me after my classes are finished.3

@PrincessSlytherin - that’s amazing! My partner tries to be supportive, but doesn’t understand the importance of weighing. It has taken him a little while to remember that I would need to know all the ingredients, let alone the amounts! He is very supportive in other ways though1

My wife tries to be supportive, but she is also one who buys into whatever has shown up in her FB feed that day so I did have to tell her to back off and let me do it my way.
She knows I will weigh stuff. If she makes something new, she knows to give me the recipe. I'm teaching her to just send me the URL so I can import it.
She has seen 100+ lbs drop off so she knows what I'm doing is working and is very happy.
Some of the folks at work are really good about cheering me to run.4 -
Took a while, but my husband is really getting behind me now because he sees how important it is for me to stick with it. Every night I walk a mile or two with the dog, and every night I invite him to come along. He always says no, and I figure it's his choice and I'll never force him to come along. Last night I made it about 3 blocks out and I heard someone running behind me - it was my husband. He ran to catch up because he changed his mind and wanted to come along. We went about 2 miles and it was just lovely having some company.20

My fiance is excellent at reigning me in from fast food and restaurants. Without him, I'd be a balloon.
He has lost over 100lbs while we've been together, and now he has abs! He's become very active and fit, he's definitely an inspiration to me.
So... his support has been just existing around me, haha.7 -
I love this question!!
The other day I was trying to run for 30 minutes total, and I just felt crappy. I slowed down to a walk at the 20 minute mark and I really wanted to go home. Stared at my phone for a solid minute debating just giving up. So I texted my friends, told them I had 10 minutes to go, and asked them for songs to pump me up.
They responded with song suggestions, and told me I could do it - not to give up, cause I was so close! It was a real struggle, but I finished, super exhausted but with my friends cheering me on !12 -
Awesome story, @PrincessSlytherin. My hubby will ask what I can have for dinner when he is cooking. He willingly goes to whatever restaurant I can make work. He also has been very, very supportive of my powerlifting training, even though it's a bit spendy and takes a lot of time at the gym that I am not spending with him. TBH, he really enjoys the #squatbooty.3

That so super sweet. I love my husband and he is super supportive, though he doesn't understand the calorie counting either. His favorite word is you can't have that. I am working on him to use the word shouldn't because I can have what ever I want. He eats really healthy so he supports me in by cooking and help shopping for healthier foods to eat. He more than happy to get up for a walk when I don't want to go by myself. He is my support we are just working on wording. Some one telling me I can't have something makes me want to do it even more.1

Such wonderful stories in this thread!
I think the most supportive thing to happen to me is my husband, a natural night owl, putting up with the alarm going off at 4:30 every morning when I get up to exercise. He's always woken up by it and always good humored about it. He falls right back to sleep, so I'm sure that helps.4 -
The most supportive thing I've gotten was from an older man named Bob at the gym. He gave me a 2017 American Silver Eagle Bullion coin and a card on my one year anniversary of going to the gym. I now consider it my one year 'sobriety' coin.10
