Okay I've been dying to know which movie this is.. that I once saw when I was a kid. Here's all I remember:

-it's a war movie between America and I don't know who
-the first scene opens up with people getting shot up and dying (from the foreign side)
-there is a particular scene where they show a classroom being taught, and there's a secret door that opens up and soldiers come out of it.
-there's a scene in which a guy in prison gets his food spit on by an American soldier
-there's an intense fight scene near the end in which either the good or bad guy dies.
-the last scene I believe it shows an American soldier getting on a helicopter, and then it zooms into the American flag.

    That's all I remember!

Do you know which war? WWII, Vietnam, etc?
Is it an american movie? How did you know the people were foreign, was it subtitled maybe dubbed?
Was it in color or black and white?

helicopters (although used in Korea) should be a tip off that it's the Vietnam war or later.

probably Vietnam ...... there aren't too many Gulf War or Grenada war movies.

I skimmed it and forgot he said that. Still, OP is unsure so it could be any war movie.

OP should google war movies. As it's just too vague to pin down anything. I'm not even sure it's a Hollywood movie.

It sounds like one of our family's home movies from 2003.

I meant, I was going to try watching the movie with David Bowie. It's number 100 on the link from Michael. And that movie is called "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence." It's not the same movie that the OP is talking about. I just like David Bowie. The one on Michaels list.

Guys I was like 7 or 8 years old when I saw it so my details are super vague.. I know. I've been trying to remember the movie forever now

OP was it a GREAT movie to you at age 8?
Why are you still thinking about it 20 years (?) later?

Enjoyed reading all the Smart Azz remarks and guesses.

If OP thinks someone is young in their 40's, I'm just going to chalk this made-up movie to dementia.

I'm going to quote this to you in 2023

    Why cant 40's be young??

Because the average life expectancy is around 80. Half way there is a foot in the grave.

    Well thanks, I’m halfway dead.

I might have more than a foot in the grave then.

    Enjoy the movie!

I saw it years ago. It's a bit slow but worthwhile.

For a great War movie, see full metal jacket or all quiet on the western front

I don’t think this is it but Kelley’s Hero’s is a good movie. They have a tank though. And I don’t think those scenes are in there .

Kellys Heros is a WWII movie

    Great cast with
    Don Rickles
    Donald Sutherland
    Clint Eastwood
    Harry Dean Stanton
    Carroll O'CONNOR
  • Someone suggested We Were Soldiers. The release year is right. Here's a trailer, does this help?

I know! I spent way too much time thinking and googling on this. Could you be any more vague?
What war was it? Does the protagonist get taken prisoner or does he just stop by to spit in someone's food? Driving me insane.

 I say this to people all the time, I’ve never heard anyone else say it!

Only living half your life so far is a foot in the grave? Wow, you have a lot to learn and live young man. I didn't start to really live until I was about 40, the BEST is yet to come. Some years and maturity will have you remembering this and thinking how arrogant it sounds. You're just so cute and naive I want to give you a pat on the head and a sucker.

I was going to write a real snarky reply to this about how awesome getting old sounds. But then I just went on living my life.

He was kidding and your response was pretty condescending.

ANYWAYS! This post has been bothering me now for two full work days. I need an answer. And did OP answer how old he is? Because if he was 8 when he saw it then it would be so much easier to try and pinpoint a year.

Right now the only movie coming to mind is Black Hawk Down but Josh Harnett was in his 20s, not middle-aged.

    Not it.
