Weight loss pills

Just wondering if anyone has tried Phentermin-D. Its the OTC version of Phentermine (script from Dr's office). I've done a lot of reading and it seems either it worked great, or didn't work at all. No middle ground. I'd like to hear from people who have actually used it. I trust the people on here vs a google search.
A little background on me...Fertility drugs galore=weight gain.
twin pregnancy=weight gain.
1 child passed away=weight gain
1 8.5 baby=weight gain
twin pregnancy with bed rest (yup, 2 twin pregnancies) weight gain. So in all, I've gained 40lbs with all of this on my 5'3 frame and no matter what I do, it won't go away! I track on MFP. I have a fitbit with heart rate tracker. I've been hitting up the gym for over a year. Changing it up with cardio and weights. I get 12k plus steps in a day! I don't eat fast food, rarely do I drink pop. I do have coffee but dammit, I work full time and have 4 kids! My BMI is 33%. I'm not looking at weighing 120lbs. But I wouldn't mind losing 20lbs. Even 15 would be nice. Diabetes, High blood pressure, heart issues run in my family and now that I"m in my 40's I want to take care of this now before menopause hits.
So I've been through enough and don't need to hear "just stick with it" etc etc. I've been eating healthy for 4 years (since last pregnancy ended) AND working out. Pants don't fit better, measurements aren't going down, weight isn't dropping.
Oh, all my bloodwork comes back just fine. No thyroid issues, etc etc. I'm just fat.
TIA

I have not taken it, but if you get the chance to, you can search for "phentermine" using the search function. There have been a lot of threads about the prescription level, not sure about over the counter.
I couldn't lose weight until I started logging and using a food scale. Turns out I was eating a few hundred healthy cals more than I thought, and once I fixed that everything fell into place.
Just a heads up, your responses will mostly be - if weight loss pills worked, no one would be fat, and you are eating more than you think. Sorry. Pills and fad diets don't go over well here.
Whatever you decide to do, good luck!8 -
Yeah, I know they don't go over too well here. If it gets to be too bad, then I'll just delete the thread. Don't need people bashing. :-)
I have tried the scale thing. Funny thing...If I eat less than 1700 calories per day I actually get sick and dizzy. It's all healthy calories (Yeah, I have a cheat day here and there I'm not one of those people who claims I never do). I chalk the 1700 calories up to the fact that I burn 2300-2600 calories per day.2 -
Phentermine is just a Band-Aid, a temporary fix. Save your money and get a food scale.4

If diet pills worked there would be no fat people... so....?
Have you tried eating in a deficit by weighing all your food and logging on MFP?
Your BMI isn't a % so it's either 33, or you're talking about body fat percent?3 -
Yes, Body Fat. Sorry.0

First, I'm sorry for your loss.
2nd - food scale. Always food scale.
If you must eat 1700 calories to not feel light headed, then eat 1700 calories and create your deficit with exercise.
Don't buy Phentermine.

Hey girl! I tried Phentermine a few years ago, but I haven't heard of the OTC stuff so I'm not sure how it differs in strength. My experience was decent...the first few days I felt the energy buzz, lesser appetite (this is the main reason why it works), and overall just felt more ready to do stuff. I struggled after a major car accident a few years ago that resulted in a big weight gain, so I figured this would help me get on the right track. After about a week or so I was down about 7lbs (surely a large portion was water weight but I was being way more active) and I noticed that my heart rate and resting heart rate were a lot higher. When I exercised it was very difficult to stay in a good 'zone'. I kept jumping to 190+ with a moderate intensity. This kind of scared me so I stopped taking it.
Honestly it's one of those things where you end up weighing the options of 'is this pill bad for me' or 'is the weight bad for me'. If you are struggling, I don't think there is any reason to not try it and see how you feel. I would just definitely pay attention to how your body is reacting and your HR. The heart rate thing seems to be an issue with only some people, but just know phentermine will not work long-term. It's like a temporary booster that ends up off-setting you if you don't use that time to change it up more.
Feel free to add me if you want to chat. I know the mental struggle of trying to do all you can and still struggling to see the gains you feel like you've been earning. Have you tried contacting the doctor you used when doing fertility drugs? Surely they are aware of similar issues and maybe could help point you in the right direction as well.2 -

You don't have to eat healthy, you don't have to exercise, you don't need pills, you just need to eat less.2

OP, the bolded is an important point. This works by decreasing your appetite, so you can eat less. If you are experiencing physical problems when you eat less than 1700 cals, you might end up not being able to eat over 1700 cals because you have no appetite, but feeling dizzy when you eat under. Phentermine won't make you lose weight, it will suppress your appetite (if it works).
The key is figuring out how many calories you need to eat to lose half to one lb per week, and eating that much. How you get there is ultimately up to you.0 -
Good luck in what ever path you choose.1

So you could eat 1800- 2100 and still lose at least a pound a week.2 -
Yeah my daughter goes on those every year or so. Buzzes around for awhile eating virtually nothing. Swears she loses 20 lbs in a month and then goes off them and gains 30. One of these days I'll talk her into actually logging her calories. I'm the tortoise, she's the hare.3
