Weight loss WITHOUT exercise? Did you do it?

Exercise has always been an issue for me but even more so now that I gained a lot of weight from a recent stressful life event. I've been working hard to get back on track (my diary should be public) and was hoping that there are success stories out there of people losing without exercise. My neurologist thinks that if I can drop about 80lbs, my symptoms should improve enough to allow me to begin exercise again (I love to go outside and walk). I do get out and take it slow (I just can't raise my heart rate up too high otherwise my pressure goes up). For those who lost weight this way, did you stick with the recommended calories that MFP gave you or did you do a lower calorie amount? Thank you!
MFP's calorie targets assume ZERO exercise...it is your weight loss target WITHOUT any exercise, so there's no need to have a lower amount.5 -
You can do it, a lot of ppl are successful with just calorie restriction.
However, you may not end up where you want to be in the end, as far as body composition is concerned. Google the term "Skinny Fat".
My recommendation would be keep doing as much as you can without aggravating your condition, and increase exercise as/when you can.2 -
80% is due to what you eat they say. My only exercise is walking and that is just to speed up the process for me. Lots of good advice here. My diary is open.1

Do you have a Chiari malformation? I have that. I've lost 30 pounds with just counting calories. I've got about 46 more pounds to go, maybe 50 - we'll see when I get there. You can do it.0

Yes i have. I started on 8th Aug and so far ive lost 17lb/8kg. Just from eating alone. I would say 80% good 20% treats. Ive only this past week started trying to add in some time on the elliptical because i want to be losing more then i am.0

I wanted to clarify that I’m not sitting around all day. I move a lot at my job and stay active at home. I’m just unable to exercise in a way that raises my heart rate too high. :-) I’ll double check with my primary doc on my calories when I see him next month too.2

I too lost weight by using MFP guided calorie control, no exercise. My job is very sedentary so I'm probably a good example! The urge to lose weight was prompted by my son's comment 'I love your squishy belly'! Started at 157 Lbs, now sitting at 140 Lbs. Which puts my BMI at 22.7. I'm happy with my progress and hope to maintain 140 - 145 Lbs.1

Yes. And I still am. I started logging again on July 31st at 161.8lbs. I'm currently 143.6lbs. I was supposed to maintain at 148...my body and appetite had other plans.
I walk - we take our dog for various walks a day - but I haven't stepped foot in a gym. I did try and do videos early in the weight loss but I couldn't find 1 I wanted to stick too. I did it maybe 3 times...
I find making a commitment to eat less easier than moving more...1 -
25kg in 4 months last year doing sedentary work. But this year I'm aiming towards healthier, not just lighter. And I'm mostly enjoying that journey.2

Diet is all that's needed but working out can help speed up the process.0

I lost around 40 pounds without exercising! Several years ago I was suffering from the same conditions, losing the 40 pounds helped SO much. Now I am in remission, and no longer taking medication! My doctor recommended a low sodium diet which was very beneficial to me--I have read online that low sodium is great for any sort of hypertension. You have to be careful with it though, as your body does NEED sodium (I learnt this the hard way). But yes, very doable if you are mindful of measuring your food! I would recommend sticking to the calorie goal MFP gives you- It's important for your body to get its needed protein/carbs/fat especially when it's going through other health issues. Good luck girl ❤️❤️0

I lost a lot without working out. But I look much better when I do workout.2

As its been said plenty times over. Yup. I walked for most my exercise. No need to get heart rate up to be burning calories. Seriously. Now to be transparent i walked ALOT and i have a fairly active (its really active lol) job. But iv done enough to know i definatly still lose when i dont move so much i simply enjoy moving more because i get more food. Yum0

I've lost 70lbs this year in essence with CICO and not really any exercise0

Yes, I rarely exercise beyond the normal daily activities. I've lost 29lbs so far1

I lost a good amount of weight about 10 years ago without exercise. I was frustrated though because although the scale said I lost weight, my body didn't looked the same. I eventually gained the weight back and then some.
This time around I chose to focus on fitness and my body composition it was a better fit for me. I wanted a leaner, tighter body and I need exercise to do that. Plus it has been easy to maintain my weight loss.
But yes, I do know plenty of people who are losing weight without exercise.1 -
In 2017 I lost 100 pounds with no exercise, beyond regular day to day activity. I began walking/hiking at that point and eventually lost 50 more pounds. Quit logging and gained 50 back. That is why I am back on MFP now. Maintenance was difficult for me, losing the weight was pretty easy in comparison.0

2400 doesn't seem high to me...esp now that we can see your stats. But be prepared that will come down as you lose.zealouszoey wrote: »I wanted to clarify that I’m not sitting around all day. If you don't want to raise your heart rate than yes you can lose the weight without doing that but that doesn't mean no exercise per say.
Try going for 10-15 min walks and increase the duration and/or speed as you can...
walking burns calories.

I've lost 30lb in the last 48 days without exercise.
I expect that this is either total fallacy or there is something odd going on and if it really did happen it would be very unhealthy to lose that much weight in such a short amount of time if it was due to calorie restriction (unless WLS was involved and you are under the care of a RD)
I don't understand why people read that post and are all like wow I want that??? smh.3 -
I lost 80 lbs without exercise or eating vegetables. Then I started exercising regularly. CICO works.1
