Is there anyone else on a high carb low protein diet/lifestyle out there? I average about 70%carb 20%fat and 10%protein. I know there are several people out there that are opposite...but I was wondering if anyone else does well on this too here on mfp.

Protein is the fundamental building block of tissue. Skin, muscles, hair, nails, bone. It is an essential nutrient. Why would you want to eat low protein?17

mmapags asks a good question. How many grams of protein are you getting?2

Depends on the day. I don't have a set amount of calories or macros I aim for. I eat what I eat and I enjoy looking at different things like my nutrients on MFP which is why I track. Its a weird sense of fun haha.
Example the past 3 days: 40ish today, 50ish yesterday, 30ish 3 days ago.
But I'm happy eating this way and don't think it's for everyone. I'm just plant based and it comes out to be about 70/20/10

No one here it is trying to debate you, fyi. But maybe give this a look:

Depending on your calorie goal, your fats could be a little low too. Do you like avocado?3 -
That's about the way i eat; feel free to friend me.
Also, I wouldn't call it a low protein diet, (unless you compare it to a standard American diet, which is very high in protein) i call it an adequate protein diet. 10% is way above the minimum recommendations.28 -
Doesn't sound healthy, unless you're so active that fat and protein amounts to sufficient amounts - and it doesn't sound like it does in your case. Not debating, just a warning.5

10% is way above the minimum? ? That would mean 37g of protein for me at my current deficit which would be ridiculously low.
Protein and fat are essential macros, unlike carbs. Scraping by on the bare minimum just seems risky in so many ways.

I get about 60-70 grams of protein per day, which is relatively low based on my carb intake which is usually about 200-250 grams per day. I eat a primarily whole foods, vegan diet. I do make sure to hit my protein target daily, though.5

The Minimum recommendations are 0.83 Grams per kg of bodyweight. For most people that is Not Met by 10% of their calories, Especially Not when eating at a deficit.8 -
Yeah, it's why percentage is a terrible way to judge needs. 10% is great for the average competitive marathon runner, as it amounts to a quite reasonable percentage. It's awful for someone doing a 1200 cal diet. The average American eats only about 15-20%, but I'd agree that's high given the crazy calories the average American eats. It's not high for a person at a deficit (might be adequate, might not, depending on total calories and goals).
OP, there are some plant-based groups here and many plant-based posters. Many of them eat more protein and fat than you do, but you might find searching the groups useful.6 -
10% of 2000 calories is 200 calories of protein. Now I know OP is vegan but just for reference 200 calories of lean chicken breast is 44g. And that's protein dense. Not that I'm against carbs, I'd probably pretty happily eat a very carb heavy diet if it wasn't in total opposition to my body composition and healthy into old age goals.3
-
I am also plant based and I eat roughly those macros, usually closer to 80-10-10. And I've been successful with it and feel great. I eat until I'm full and don't really calorie count. I use MFP to track macros more than calories. People are weirdly obsessed with protein.8
-
because your body NEEDS protein for daily functions - its a required macro for a reason9
-
Being aware of the reason we need protein is not an obsession, it is science based nutrition. Look it up.12

I'm going to be honest, that's pretty close to my breakdown. I've made a conscious decision to up it over the last couple of months, but I'm usually 15-20%, with some days coming in at less than 10%. OP, are you actually vegan, or just don't like meat as much?0

Thank you to everyone who replied. I don't feel like getting into a this way or that way is the right way discussion. I've friended those who mentioned they eat similarly to me. Thanks for answering!
Forums get to be touchy when you talk about protein, vegan, plant based....so I just want to say thanks for your concerns to those who are worried...and thanks for responding to those who are similar to me.11 -
I was eating at a low protein level, oh my gosh it just didn't go well for me, I started losing more hair and my nails broke very easily, among other things. I was at 40 grams a day, sometimes more sometimes less. Might not affect ya'll the same way it did me but just wanted to put it out there, just in case you start noticing the same thing. It took me a while to figure out it was the protein, I thought it was hormonal. Anyways good luck to you!5

OP, you may want to post in the Intros sub forum as well, you might have more success. Given the subject of this area of the forum it's inevitable people are going to comment on recommended nutritional minimums.4

Not me.
However, I also don't believe in high protein diets.0 -
Just adding protein deficiency isn't fun and yes I experienced it. Being vegan doesn't mean you have to be that low in protein8

I honestly blame people like Freelee for the weird assertions about protein.8 -

I'm not afraid of protein, I don't restrict protein. I eat what I want, when I want...I just happen to track my food and enjoy tracking my food. It just so happens that my average is about that percentage. I also had to google this FREELEE, not too sure what her standpoint is or what she does. But I will look into it.2 -

Yeah my percentages vary as well, but my breakdown tends to be low. I am vegan, but I don't restrict protein or hate protein or want protein at a certain percentage.2 -

I can certainly understand why you don't want to get into debates on an internet forum. But you might be doing yourself a disservice if you put yourself in an echo chamber by only friending like minded people. As other people have mentioned, low protein can lead to problems. If you're tracking your macros, why not increase your protein a bit?9 -

I agree with the echo chambers thing, but people should also be able to reach out for support among like minded people, without being constantly bombarded with debate. Ultimately, we are all adults, and have some right to choose our own diets.
If someone comes on here saying that they just had their first deer processed, and they are looking for venison recipes, I would feel the same way ab plant based people bombarding them with “throw it out! Meat is poison!” Debate has it’s place, and so does support.8 -

Nobody has an issue with being vegan. Protein doesn’t = meat. So asking why low protein has nothing to do with a way of eating, it’s totally and easily possible to get adequate protein as a vegan. That’s all anyone was saying.11 -
yup - Netnanny extraordinate out and about today3

I am tracking my macros, but I don't see an issue with balancing between 40-50 grams of protein. (On average).1 -

Except there are numerous sources of vegan protein...nobody is telling the OP to eat meat...people are simply saying that there are minimum RDA requirements for protein for health. I eat a crap ton of plant based protein.7
