Hello all,

I'm new to my fitness pal and I'm looking for some motivation and advice with weight loss. I'm a 23yo male standing at 6'4" and weighing in at 265lbs. My goal is to reach 220lbs through diet control and exercise, both cardio and strength training, with a bias toward strength training as I'm a natural big stocky build (rugby player body type) - my main concern is getting rid of belly flab and staying away from sugars so if anybody can offer advice and insight into the mental battle that accompanies weight loss I would love to hear more!

Welcome to MFP. Did you fill out your Diet/Fitness Profile page to get started? MFP would've suggested a daily calorie goal at that point. Just fill in your daily diary and monitor your Calories In and Calories Out, to ensure you're running a deficit. That's the only certain way to ensure weight loss.

I'll send you a Friend Request to help get you started on your journey.

Thanks Tony, indeed I did and will be sticking to my recommended calorie intake. CICO makes sense and seems simple enough!

Greetings from the Pacific Northwest. I began tracking my food consumption and exercise activity 17 days ago, and am pleased to say, it has helped me get past a stall in my weight loss. A year ago, I had my first meeting with a bariatric surgeon, and after a major set back, due to a really bad reaction to some high blood medication, finally had the gastric sleeve procedure done in July. While in preparation for the surgery, I managed to lose about 60 pounds, and since the surgery, have lost another 46. While I was ill, back in January, I actually gained 20 pounds in two weeks, but that was the reaction to the blood pressure medication. So at my highest, I was at 375, and just today got below 270! I have not been here since the mid 1980's. I spent the last two months right around the 100 pound loss mark, and wondered if I would ever get below 275. My nutritionist recommended I check out my fitness pal, and I have to give the credit to starting it for starting me losing again. So, I am anxious to hear other people's stories,, struggles, and triumphs.
