Chiropractor- Thoughts?

Hey guys! I am starting to go to a chiropractor in hopes that it will help my chronic hip bursitis. I am going to try it out or awhile and see if it makes a difference. He has me set up to come back 3 times a week for 2 weeks, 2 times a week for 4 weeks, and 1 time a week for 4 weeks.
Anybody else have set up like this that helped them? It is kind of expensive even with insurance so I am just wondering what your experiences are. I know it can be controversial to go to chiro, but I feel like I have exhausted other options (except physical therapy for my hips. I had PT for my knees. I will try that if the chiro does not help).
Positive experiences? Negative? Just curious! Also, how often do you go after the initial treatment? Once a month? once every few months?

I swear by my chiro. Been going for 15 years (and I'm 32). I typically go as needed, but for sure once a month. They don't fix everything, but I typically see him before I go to my regular general medicine doctor.0

I used to work in a chiro office. I've seen it change people's lives dramatically. Even correct scoliosis
Best wishes!0 -
I see a holistic chiropractor. She is amazing. I went once a week for a long time but cut back to as needed every few months. My lower back pain is much better and will only get stronger over time.0

A good chiropractor will work towards getting you to a maintenance phase. I go once every 4 to 6 weeks, mainly my saccrailliac and neck. I have been going regularly for over 30 years. Make sure you have one that spends time with you, discusses your specific problem and doesn't just run you through the same adjustment everytime without checking you periodically for improvement. There are quacks out there - sad to say, just like any other profession.0

I've been under chiro care for almost 3 years and I can honestly tell you that it has improved the quality of my life....my overall wellness. I am a big advocate for chiropractic care and believe that you will benefit from the therapy. Also consider acupuncture.0

My chiro saved my marathon dreams. Seriously. I thought my knees were a lost cause. My treatment has been nothing short of my own personal miracle. It's been amazing for my hips too and shoulder, LOL...0

I hurt my shoulder really bad a few years ago and went through accupuncture and physio, massage therapy ...and chiro. Chiro was the very best and I strongly recommend it!0

I use to go to a chiropractor for a while like 15 years ago. I got into an accident this past Dec and had bad neck pain. I couldn't even turn my head to the left. I did the whole rest thing, then saw specialists that sent me to physical therapy, then I went and got 3 nerve blocking shots in my neck (which caused more pain than I was in). Then finally I went to an acupuncturist!! The dr helped me soooooooo much!!! I loved it! I say go for it, plus the ad on the top of my screen is find a chiropractor. lol Good luck!0

That was my basic schedule when I started my chiropractic care. Then once a week, then once every two weeks and now I go once a month.0

Love my chiropractor!! Had severe neck and upper back issues. Drs did nothing but tell me I was fine test after test. Someone suggested it to me and it was like WOW! Initially I was set up for 3xs/week, then 2xs/week and so on. Now I only need to go on an as needed basis.
I also have bursitis in my left hip. I did get a shot once, but then my chiropractor aslo helped me with that. I say go for it!!!0 -
I started seeing one in January. Its been a godsend!! I started going twice a week and worked my way up and now go one a month. It was expensive for me ($40 copay each time) but really worth it.0

Love my chiro.0

I go to the chiropractor when my back/hip goes out and it gets me moving again. I probably should go once a month, but like yousaid, it's expensive even with insurance. Sometimes you have to shop around to find one that adjusts the way you feel comfortable with. I went to one that made me feel worse and had to go to a different one that adjusted differently.0

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I hope it works out!0

I absolutely believe in chiropractic care! My chiro turned my third baby who was transverse (sideways, basically) in the womb. Without touching my stomach!! My drs. were talking about trying to turn him (which HURTS, I have been told) and is pretty dangerous (I would have had to been in the OR and hooked up to an iv just in case my placenta abrupted. All my chiro did was lay me on my belly and manipulate my legs. He had turned by the next day. It is called the Webster Maneuver (or something like that). There are some quacky ones out there - just like drs - but there are some extremely good ones, too!0

Okay so I have had two visits to the chiro now. Feeling good so far, just a little sore from the first adjustments.
Anyone have anything new to add to my questions?0 -
My husband, my daughter and myself have been going to a chiropractor for the past 7 yrs. It has changed our lives. I had chronic hip and shoulder pain for 6 months and headaches 24 hrs a day for many years since I was teenager. My neurologist wanted to hospitalize me my headaches were so bad. I went to every specialist for my hip and shoulder and they all told me nothing showed up on the tests so it must be in my head. I started out on a treatment program much like what you've described. The pain subsided very quickly within a matter of days and I was pain free in about a month. I was also taking 16 pills a day for various things, now I only take one for a seizure disorder. My daughter is off of all of her allergy meds and no longer needs an inhaler. My husband no longer needs blood pressure meds. We now all go once per week just for maintenance. We are on a "family plan" where we pay one set fee per month and if we get hurt or become ill we can go every day if we want to help our body heal quicker. Ask your chiropractor if they offer a similar plan. Good luck and hope you are pain free soon. It is normal to be sore the first few visits as your body adjusts.0
