I am going to try a Keto diet. I started this morning. Any advice for me on what or what not to eat? I would love some simple meal ideas.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi flippy1234, basically, the premise is that FAT does NOT make you fat. That the "lo-fat" craze is a marketing ploy. So...Fitness Pal's default settings will NoT be in accordance with Keto goals. You,can however, customize FP to agree if you think Keto is a wise choice. If you are diabetic, your old school doctor will FREAK OUT because you will be inducing KETO ACIDOSIS in your body, so you must research, drink PLENTY of WATER and be aware that it's not all "beer and pretzels"...no, really,NOT beer and pretzels! Look in Groups for the Low Carber Daily Group or the keto group. Plenty of great advice on there for keto.2

Start after your vacation5

I suggest you join the LCD group here, and start by reading the launchpad thread on its web page. All you need to know is in that launchpad. Recipes, videos, podcasts, etc.

There's no point in starting before your vacation, unless you plan to only eat keto foods during it and potentially feel crappy due to keto flu.
As someone who did keto for a full year then stopped and regained all the weight... is this something that's going to be sustainable for you? Can you go without carbs for months, years, decades? If not - what's the point? Why not just continue eating how you enjoy eating but in smaller portions?5 -
This is a must read book.

Just to be clear.
You will go on keto with all the induction phase difficulty which take a few days to a week.
Then in a week you will go on your vacation.
There are two choices at that point.
Continue on keto during your vacation or not.
A big part of the keto initial weight loss is the depletion of your glycogen stores which results in almost 4 grams lost for every gram of carb that you deplete.
Think of the beauty of that. With just four calories of deficit you remove 4 grams of body weight. That is because each gram of depleted carb is bound to 2-3 grams of water.
Do you want to take a guess as to what happens as soon as you are off keto and your glycogen gets replenished storing each gram of carb together with two to three grams of water back on your body?
Did you notice a single word about fat stores in the above discussion?2 -
OK, so maybe instead of Keto, just go lower carb?0

Instead of low-carb, why don't you try going back in time a few months so you can lose some weight healthily before your vacation?
Just joking around. Your vacation is next week. Focus on packing instead of making drastic changes to your diet. When you're back, you can think about diet changes or re-focusing on calorie counting.3 -

I would say for now reduce your carbs if you want to rid yourself of some bloat before your trip. Enjoy your trip then when you come back get started on a reasonable calorie deficit (doesn't matter if its with keto, low carb, CICO) and log everything in MFP. Drink water. Move more. Have patience.

My number one piece of advice would be:
Focus on low-carb veggies, and fill up on those.
Broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, celery, zucchini, cabbage, cucumber, and dark leafy greens (such as spinach, kale, chard, collard greens, etc.) can all be enjoyed pretty much without restriction (as long as they aren't smothered in sauce.)
I believe this is the healthier way to ease you toward a keto/low-carb diet. This way, you can still incorporate healthier eating habits while enjoying your vacation, without spending those initial vacation days feeling kind of icky while your body is getting into ketosis. Those first few days can be rough, depending on the person.
If it helps, I'll include a link to some of my favorite recipes (almost all low-carb and plant-based) here: https://www.pinterest.com/vanessaluna/recipes/ ,
along with a general low-carb snack list here:

I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you have other keto-related questions. I had tremendous success on a low-carb, ketogenic diet, and continue to enjoy success following a more relaxed version of those same diet styles, so I'm happy to share my knowledge and experience if it might help someone else.
I wish you the best of luck!
