I keep falling off the wagon..

I have a desk job, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. I am so mentally spent after work, there's no desire to exercise at all. I eat healthy but I need to exercise, have joined a gym and was doing well in the beginning but have slacked off...I stepped on scale and had gained weight instead of losing....

I'm in the same predicament. Working Monday through Friday, 8-5, sedentary for the most part, and burned out by the time I get home. This time I need to stick to my goals.
You can do this, be strong and good luck.0 -
Worked 3 jobs and ran in between jobs 1 and 2 before joining Navy.
You have to make the time. First thing in the morning before anything else is ideal.
Didn't start working out seriously till I was 32, something is always sore but life waits for no one and the more I do the more I can do.
Go get some.1 -
So don't exercise. Walk through the park or mall. Go bike riding, roller skating, swimming, dancing. What sounds good?
Second CyberDraco's "the more you do, the more you can do."0 -
You don't "need" to exercise to lose weight. It's great for your health and fitness, but not strictly necessary.
What you need, is to weigh and log your food, drinks and condiments as accurately as possible. "Eating healthy" means nothing if you're still eating too much for your goals! Set up your profile correctly on here, choose an appropriate amount to lose, and eat the amount of calories it gives you.
If you want to get in a bit of exercise, try a short walk during your lunch break, or park a little further away, or get off at an earlier stop if you use public transport. Use the stairs as much as possible. Walk over to talk to a colleague instead of phoning or emailing. If you work in a building with more than one storey, use the washroom on a different level so you need to take the stairs to get there. When you go shopping, park further away. All these little things add up over time!
And yes, find something that seems like "fun" instead of "work", as @corinasue1143 suggested. Or get some home workout videos, look up stuff on YouTube, or whatever else works for you. You don't need to go to a gym if it's a challenge to find enough time for it. I would sometimes do a 10-15 minute walking video while waiting for supper to cook.2 -
I work at a desk job all day too. I have lower back issues so I can't work out right now until I meet with a physical therapist to find out the right way to exercise without further injuring myself. At work, every hour I try to get up and walk around the office. Or crank up my tunes and dance a song. But I'm by myself most of the day, so I can do that! LOL! If you have stairs nearby, walk up a flight of stairs and back down. At lunch, walk up two flights and back down. If you're unable to do that because of your job, then make a conscious effort every hour to jiggle your legs for at least 5 minutes while sitting at your desk. It's not a lot but it will burn off some calories.0

Just to be clear you didn't gain weight because you don't exercise. You gained weight because you ate more than you burned. If you're trying to lose, you'd see better results by focusing on how much you're eating rather than how little you're moving.2 -

Work out before work then.
Weight loss is all about your calorie deficit. Whether it's healthy or not, if you're eating too much you won't lose weight.1 -
I also work a sedentary job and after years of not moving, it finally caught up with me. I can starve myself and still be overweight. I have one of those metabolisms that require a good dose of both eating right and exercise before I experience positive results, and its gotten worse with reaching menopausal age, etc. So, I've been off the wagon for some time now, but I would like to get back on it. Your note, while not encouraging has encouraged me to get with it again. Working long hours, I understand and can empathize with you. Getting up is not the easiest for me either, since I have to be on the road so early. However, I would like to challenge you to get up at least 15-20 minutes early and do a short exercise routine catered to your abilities, and let's see where this grows. Let's just start and do something! You can add me, if you need an accountability partner. Best,0
