Good job. I quit a few years ago. I binged drink-ed once in a while before then and went through a phase in college where I was an idiot.
God has ordered us not to drink. Drunkenness is not condoned throughout the old testament. Jesus entered into a new covenant after the last supper in Mathew 26:29 "But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."
we should not drink at all as we are to be Christ like.9 -

Dude, did you miss the bit where he made wine out of water?! :drinker:13 -
Congrats. I started my weight loss journey last month and gave up light beer which was at 12 per week. I miss it but I feel the difference mentally and physically. I hope to reach 9 months like you.1

It's easy to get in the habit of 1-2 lights a day (or more). They go down easy! I found it incredibly helpful to give them (and all other alcohol) up, stabilizing my weight for the first time in my life!0 -

it says drunkenness, you can drink and not become drunk.if it says you are not to drink at all then there would be no communion/sacramental wine.2 -

Oh no you didn't!
Actually, I've happily spent many an pleasant evening with other people while they sip wine or whatever. It matters so much less than everyone thinks.0 -

I don't drink anymore, but it always amuses me when people suggest that the Bible/NT/Jesus is against all drinking. Yeah, but for that first miracle and all. ;-)
Anyway, OP, good for you!1 -

I'll take my Havamal any day, "Then he sips his mead and immediately. All know what an oaf he is, He who has seen and suffered much, And knows the ways of the world, Who has travelled', can tell what spirit Governs the men he meets, Drink your mead, but in moderation, Talk sense or be silent"0 -

There was a Protestant fundamentalist in the 19th century who decided all alcoholic beverages were evil, and proof texted the Bible to support his position. He said what the Bible referred to was grape juice. He was wrong. The vast majority of Christians and Jews over the millenia have had no problem with drinking alcohol - getting drunk is a different matter.
Congratulations to the OP on his sobriety - my last drink was January 8th, 1993 so yes, you can make it. If I can, anyone can.He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, And vegetation for the labor of man, So that he may bring forth food from the earth, And wine which makes man's heart glad, So that he may make his face glisten with oil, And food which sustains man's heart.
That ain't grape juice he's singing about! (Psalm 104:15)1 -
I love beer too much to give it up, but I have cut my craft beer intake (when I do drink it, I stick to the lower ABV based on calories, sorta) but I still enjoy light beer and wine. Can't quite quit it altogether. Congrats on going 9 months without. If you don't truly enjoy it that much, the calories are just not worth it. Great job!!!0

Or this (John 2):
9 And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from (although the servers who had drawn the water knew), the headwaiter called the bridegroom
10 and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now.”
Of course, that's New American (Catholic translation), but here's KJV:
9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
(I'll add, though, that Bible aside I've been sober for several years and definitely think that for some of us it's the right decision. Not undermining OP's choice, which I think is great.)0 -
All this biblical analysis could lead a person to drink.1

Although I know you won't respond, because you've been banned for being a total nozzle, how does this sit with the whole "wine is the blood of Christ" thing? and communion?0 -
