Fatty liver disease diet plan

I've recently been diagnosed with fatty liver disease. My doctor said to eat a low fat, low carb diet. She said to eat between 1500-1800 calories. She didn't give me a target for fat or carb grams. Has anyone dealt with this that can help me know where to start? I'd really like an idea of maybe specific meal plans or diets. I've looked online but there's so much info it's confusing and overwhelming to me.

Low fat, low carb means high protein and that is not healthy. I think your best bet, unless you can get an appointment with a dietician, is to go for a balanced diet - moderate everything and aiming for variety; this would be some food from each food group every day, sticking to your calorie goal - 1500-1800 sounds reasonable for female wanting to lose weight (knowing your stats would be useful) - and very limited intake of junk food, and no alcohol. To avoid further confusion and overwhelm, use your tastebuds and google recipes. Write shopping list, go shopping, cook, eat.11

I've got Fatty Liver Disease and am on 40% carbs, 30% fat, 30% protein for 200 daily which gives me about 2.6lbs loss per week
Number one things to avoid: sugar, alcohol, fried food4 -
2000 cals of course1

I have a fatty liver and I'm doing keto. The low fat and low carb leaves you only one option, protein. Too much protein and it, too, will convert to fat.
I won't give advice as I'm no expert. I WILL tell you what I'm doing. I eat lower carb, under 100g per day, moderate fat, and moderate protein. Moderate fat helps me feel full and I don't crave empty calorie junk food. I don't binge anymore which is what made me sick in the first place. I am gentle with my liver. I don't drink alcohol or take medicines that irritate it, like Tylenol
Hope this helps8 -
Low fat, low carb is a diet of pretty much meat and vegetables. It's particularly effective for fatty liver disease, hyperinsulimia and weight loss which is probably why your doctor recommended it.
Pair you favorite meats with your favorite vegetables (simplistic graphic). And here's a picture gallery of meals for inspiration. Source: Ted Naiman0 -
I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis
I'm definitely not an expert on fatty liver disease but I would follow what your doctor is telling you to do and ask for a referral to a dietitian who can guide you
Is there anything advice that you or other people who have nonalcoholic fatty liver disease would care to share? Do you guys feel like that was caused by diet or something else?

Weight loss is likely to help as much as anything.7

Reduce carbs/sugar/ alcohol. Fats are o.k.
Cook from home a little more than you were so you can measure your calories easier than you can with restaurant food.
Buy a food scale at Walmart or Target and weight and measure your food so you can log it in your diary.
It takes about 2 or 3 weeks to get used to that. Eat less than you were eating before.
These recipes include calorie counts:

this is exactly what my doctor told me
it is more important to lose weight than it is to worry about the foods you eat - so focus on dropping the weight and in the end the liver will get better7 -

I don't think there is a specific diet plan for fatty liver ... any diet plan that restricts calories so you lose weight will help to take the pressure and fat out of your liver. You might have a better idea of what you should and shouldn't eat if you knew something about how your liver functions in regards to the food you eat. There was a good bit about it on Dr Oz Show recently .... here is a link to a search on his website for discussions about it ... might be just what you need to get started ...

Perusing the literature on the topic of fatty liver disease indicates that being fat (being obese) rather than dietary fat is a factor. It also indicates that dietary factors influencing the development of fatty liver disease are less important than just losing weight. Over consumption of low-glycemic-index starches and carbohydrates like white bread, added sugars (as opposed to naturally occuring sugars in fruits and vegetables) are likely factors in the development of pediatric fatty liver disease irrespective of weight. There also has been some research on the communication between the liver and muscles in the development of fatty liver disease.
So, all in all, the recommendations seem to favor the following:- Loose weight
- Limit consumption of added sugars and simple starches
- Exercise

Best wishes to you. How's it going? I'm no expert and appreciate most people replying wont be but I'm just gathering info.
I'm starting on a liver friendly diet plan. Best motivation ever to lose weight too when its medical. Not had my official appt with doctor yet but the lady doing the scan led me to believe its going to be fatty liver and everything in my life matches that. Just glad there's no 'lumps'. I welcome any advice, documents or websites you've found. Liver friendly diet is not something I've ever had to look at.0 -
My gastroenterologist recommended losing the weight and losing it slowly. If you drop the pounds too quickly there are chemical reactions that occur in the liver that can actually cause problems. I was told good fats, moderate protein, veggies and low glycemic fruit. Avoid white bread and sugar. No or very limited alcohol was a given. 1600 calories and cardio 3 to 4 days a week. Not much different than most other dietary changes.1

Hi, Diagnosed over 10 years ago. Doc just said to do Weight Watchers. Never told me anything about it whether it is important or what. I am glad to read that losing weight will help. Good luck1

There's LOTS of information on the internet! Search for "low carb diet fatty liver." I like dietdoctor.com because it has information you can readily use.5

Hello! I am also a Fatty Liver person! Too much medications, stress over the past number of years (2014 I had a leg amputated because of a rare bone tumor) and the lack of regular good exercise has created weight gain. My liver specialists has told me that I need to lose 15lbs by the end of September and pray that my levels go down. My ALT levels are HIGH and the others are on the very edge of normal.
Did my research: NO salt, sugar, white flour, white rice or fast food.
LOTS of: dark green/purple veggies, dark berries, olive oil, apples, cantaloupe, green tea, coffee and garlic.
The specialists has OK's the use of my supplements: L-Carnitine and Amino Acids
Today is DAY 1 - of a whole new me!2
