The Best Source of Energy to Fuel your Workouts

Believe it or not—Carbs!!

Carbohydrates today don’t get as much credit as they should. In fact, most people steer away from them at the start of a new diet. There are many myths surrounding the benefits of taking them out of the equation, which can sometimes lead to drops in blood sugar, and low levels of energy throughout the day.

So let’s take a closer look in how beneficial they truly. To drive this home, I’ll shine some light on the relationship between carbs and insulin, and how they interact which each other.

By the time you’re finished reading this text, hopefully you’ll gain a better, but more simple understanding on what insulin is, and the role that carbohydrates play within the body.

*Carbohydrates*

-Group of organic compounds which occur in foods, living tissue, to include sugars and various starches, that are broken down and released into the body as a source of energy.

*Insulin*

-Insulin is simply a hormone in which is produced by our pancreas which takes part in the regulation of glucoses within the bloodstream. The lack of insulin believe it or not-can cause various forms of diabetes.

*The Correlation*

-When we tend to ingest foods containing any particular amount of carbohydrates, our digestive systems breaks down any carbohydrate which may be digestible and transforms it into sugar.

-As a result of being transformed into sugar, it then moves on to the next stage and then enters the blood stream.

-As the levels of blood sugars rise within the body, the pancreas then produces insulin, which as a result prompts these sugars will be stored for energy to be utilized later.

-When it’s time to begin those workouts, the carbs and sugars become the first source of energy that our bodies tap into.

-When the body is provided the proper amount of energy, this may determine how much effort we can truly put into our workouts, to include energy, stamina, and ultimately-results!

    I'm not sure if you're being serious or sarcastic, but I'm type 1 diabetic, and carbs are essential when I'm fueling for an event, or during endurance.

    Serious question: What if you have insulin resistance and are supposed to limit your carbs?

    Timing nutrients (carbs and protein) around your workout can provide some benefit.
