Am I stronger than my little sister? (former anorexic trying to bulk)

I'm a 21 year old man, 6'1 and 110lbs. I've been going to the gym for the last month and still am unable to bench/squat the bar. It doesn't feel like I'm making any progress and I'm on the verge of giving up.

Yesterday, I was messing around wrestling with my 11 year old sister (5'1 and 70lbs) and she managed to pin me. She grabbed my arms and started hitting me with it asking me "why are you hitting yourself"?

I got angry, managed to fight out of the pin but when I got out she wrapped her thighs around my waist and squeezed until I submitted. She didn't let go and I ended up puking all over the carpet.

I've always known I was weak, but I always assumed I was stronger than my little sister. It seems like yesterday she was just playing with barbie dolls. Can you tell me who looks stronger? Like who has more arm and leg muscle from these pics? Be honest please. I'm getting really insecure.

This is her: [Removed by MFP Staff]

Has your treatment team ok-ed you going to the gym?

Please take down your sister's picture, it's not appropriate.

Very inappropriate and pretty weird you'd even be asking...

I don't see how it's inappropriate, the face is blurred. I would take it down but there's doesn't seem to be an edit button. It may seem weird to you since you're a woman, but as a dude I really don't want to be perceived as weaker than a little girl. I just want to know if that's what people really think.

And I haven't gone treatment for a couple of years now. :)

Did your parents consent to you posting a picture of her?

It might be best for you to take down the image, especially if she or your parents haven't consented for her image to be displayed online. Face being blurred or not, it's inappropriate.

Click the 3 dots click on report and ask for the post to be deleted.

If you don't understand go tell your parents you posted a picture of your sister on a site for 100,000's to look at...

Did it, hopefully something is done soon

You're recovering from a very serious illness which kills more people than any other mental illness - it's okay to be weak while you're recovering. This anxiety is another form of being anxious about your body and appearance!

Benching the bar and squatting the bar are two very different goals - most people can squat far more than they can bench. Either way, you should not be doing any exercise without the advice of a doctor, since it increases the amount of food you need to be eating.

You should not have posted her picture.

If she beat you then she was stronger than you that time. May be she would be every time.

She will have a better muscle % than you as yours will have suffered greatly due to your condition.

You will get stronger though if you eat over maintenance and continue to lift. Try not to sweat the small stuff, it really doesn't matter.

Look guys, there's no way to edit out the picture. But c'mon you're all being a bit dramatic here. She has like a thousand followers on instagram, it's not a big deal. Her face is blurred, can we focus on the question?

Thanks for the answer, do you know how long it would take till I don't have completely subhuman strength? If I go to the gym 5 times a week and try to bulk? Because it felt like she was quite a bit stronger than me, how long would it take to overtake her in strength?

How many cals are you currently eating per day?

Ok....no one cares you got your *kitten* handed to you on a plate by your baby sister.

I'm not asking anyone to care, I came here for advice. And I could have easily have punched her off of me, but I didn't want to hurt her.

I don't count, I'd like to say 3 meals a day but it's probably 2; lunch and dinner. But it's a lot better than before.

You need to get in touch with a doctor. Youre likely not even eating at maintenance and going to the gym...

Why are so concerned with overtaking your sister in strength. She's only 11 years old!

And you're best talking to your doctor about your intake with food as well as exercise in general since you're a former anorexic. Also, the reason that she maybe pinned you down is because anorexia can take a toll on your body and your body is still feeling the affects of it, hence why you're feeling weak. But, again, the best thing for you to do is to talk to a medical professional about it

I strongly recommend getting a treatment team to support you on this. I doubt you are eating enough to be gaining weight/strength. Working out on top of that will do the exact opposite of what you are hoping. You need to be able to consistently eat a surplus of calories until your body recovers from the damage that's been done. Please seek help from those who have been appropriately trained to help.

Alright since you are working on getting the picture taken down...I'll help.

I have a young gym friend who also had anorexia. She's been going consistently to the gym for 2 years now. She did have "subhuman" strength likely due to the nature of her eating disorder. Fast forward 2 years, she competes in powerlifting. I can't confirm that she uses performance enhancing drugs (but suspect it...and I would never recommend that); point being, that it can take even enhanced people years to achieve massive strength gains.

You can still make appreciable strength gains if you are consistent. You should really consult your doctor about exercise and food intake. If you are okayed to move ahead, you should consider working with a trainer.

A little while later after the 'incident', I was just sitting on the couch and she started making fun of my weakness. Saying her calves were bigger than my thighs and *kitten*, I just want to feel like an older brother.

Yeah, I might go back to my doctor again I think I lost some weight.

Sometimes kids don't realise that what they're and how it can affect other people. The best thing you can do is put it at the back of your mind. There's been many times where me and my brothers have poked fun at each other, but it's just a sibling thing - unless something else happens.

That's the best thing for you to do. Maybe you could see about a nutritionist as well to help with it.

Well something else did happen, she constricted me until I threw up. That's pretty big!

    I've made an appointment.

    That's good.
