Since there is an ecoli outbreak is it okay to eat arugala?

Theres an ecoli outbreak for leafy greens in Canada and US. Its specifically for romaine lettuce and spinach.

I just bought argula is it safe to eat or should I just avoid salads all together.

    So far, I've only heard Romaine lettuce mentioned.

    As long as you wash it, I would think it's fine.

    Generally if there is an outbreak in some sort of vegetable, it will have been from a specific farm or processing plant (in the case of washed and bagged vegetables) or distribution centre.

    Check with your appropriate govt website (I'm Aussie and can't remember what yours would be), and it will give specifics about where it is sold, or where it has come from and if there is anything else you need to avoid. If it says you need to avoid arugula, then avoid until given the all clear. If you don't need to avoid, then there's no problem. Just wash it before eating as always.

    That article just says romaine lettuce is suspected.

    Great, I just had a giant salad made with romaine lettuce for lunch :( I still have half a bag in the fridge. Oh well, if I start feeling ill I'll know where to look. Thanks for the PSA, I sincerely appreciate it :)

    Washing produce with plain water does not protect against E. coli O157:H7, and may spread the bacteria to other things that come in contact with the wash water. O157:H7 is nasty stuff. (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0740002014002330)

    Right now, romaine is suspected in the outbreak, but the CDC does not know for sure what the outbreak came from. They aren't ruling out other leafy greens. (https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2017/s1228-e-coli-outbreak.html)
