Is it poss to loose 60 pounds in 5 months?

I have my sister wedding in june, I was wondering if it is realistic to loose 60 pounds in 5-6 months? And if so, Some tips that could help?

Ten pounds a month is a really aggressive rate of loss that wouldn't be possible for many people. That said, if you begin now, you can make good progress to your goal in 5-6 months even if you don't get all the way there. That's much better than not starting because you aren't sure you can finish in time and wind up at your special event without having made any progress.25

I'm guessing it depends on your start weight. I'm on day 34 and have lost 22lbs. But I do expect the first 10 lbs were water weight because they come off really quickly.2

probably not, but as mentioned above you can definitely make a good bit of progress in that time, so don't give up!

I lost 63lb in 5 months
But I had a start weight of 292lb
If you are much smaller it won't safely be possible7 -
I think it depends on how much you need to lose, as people said above. But if you work hard and start now, you should lose a good bit of weight, even if it's not all of it. To put it in perspective- I'm 5'7". I started at 214 and I am down to 167 in 4 1/2 months. Part of it is because I set my goals pretty aggressive (not always easy or sustainable) and part of it is because my thyroid meds dose went a bit whacky with the weight loss and caused me to lose more than I probably would have. The closer I get to my goal the slower the weight is coming off, so keep that in mind as well!2

Its probably not a great idea to lose weight for a one day event..You will need to make great changes in your life in terms of dietary changes and becoming more active...These are lifetime changes not to be taken lightly.....5

The op stated their starting weight was 60lbs over (at least) ergo carrying a very large excess to begin with.
When I was 15 I lost 70lbs in 3 months ( 5'10" start weight 231lbs). I did this by eating one meal a day and cycling for an hour after school everyday. After a couple of years my weight went up to 12 stone which I stayed at for another 6 years.10 -
OP if 60lbs is all you have to lose then its not suitable to aim to lose that much in a relatively short period of time.
Aim for 1 - 2lbs a week max.
Make a start regardless, eat the calories MFP has set for you, do your best and just see what you can accomplish.

It's possible yes and I'm close to achieving that myself. Consistency is crucial so make sure you're eating at the right calorie deficit and do your best not to slip up. I'm eating at 1800 calories and I avoid eating sugary foods. That's all I do really, my physical activity has been quite low but want to become active for health benefits. You should exercise which will help you progress on your journey faster. Even if you don't quite reach your goal you'll be so much happier in yourself and you won't be far off. Get started wish you all the best .5 -

I lost 30 pounds in five months and lost muscle tone in my upper arms and forearms. I also started losing hair! My arms look not so great, and I wish I’d approached my weight loss differently.9

it is safe/reasonable to lose 1% of your total bodyweight per week. so find out what that is for you and go for it!4

^^ listen to this poster because there are 100s/1000's of people out there with the same complaint because they lost too quickly.6 -
With sheer dedication yes. I lost 56lbs (4 stone) in just under that time frame, safely, eating healthily, with Slimming World (a programme similar to Weight Watchers etc if you are not in the UK). I found the key to being able to stick to that was organisation, planning ahead with a weekly menu, from that menu what did I need at the supermarket etc. Cooking from scratch and not eating processed/sugary rubbish. As others have said even if you don't hit 60 you could be extremely close. Good luck.1

I dont think this advice is great for everyone.
people should aim to complete an exercise program tailored to their individual fitness level and capabilities. For most obese or morbidly obese individuals taking on a lifting program could mean an injury. Besides, weight lifting does not guarantee "great looking arms" as losing some muscle mass with weight loss is to be expected.

You can lose fast but you might not like how you look after the weight is gone. OP focus on losing a sustainable amount, 1-2lbs a week and lifting to maintain muscle mass. Muscle is leaner than fat and can actually make you look smaller than you really are. People still have a hard time believing how much I weigh because my muscle mass makes me look like I weigh less, despite me being tubby asf.2 -
It's just about possible if you really up your workouts to get some real calorie burns in there and set to 2 pound a week loss. Realistically you're probably looking at half that if that's all you have to lose which is still a great loss.
tips:
1) don't starve yourself if you can't eat enough to fuel yourself you won't be able to keep it up for 6 months this isn't a crash diet its a marathon if you try to sprint it like a 100m race you'll give up. Be sustainable.
2) invest in digital food scales, spoon measures and jugs and weigh and measure everything
3) log EVERYTHING even if you have a bad day, every beverage, condiment and cooking oil. If you consume it log it.
4) no generic food entries, so no medium potatoes or homemade lasagnes weigh everything and note down individual ingrediants don't guess.
5) try to avoid eating out as much as possible, menu calories are only a guide and depends more on the generosity of the staff.
6) up your activity as much as possible, walk more, cycle more, leave the car unless necessary, take the stairs, start a classs or workout you enjoy whether it's zumba swimming or whatever and if possible get a workout buddy so you have someone to help motivate you move move move!

It would be a pretty aggresive goal. You would have to be pretty strict. Dropping weight faster may not leave you looking or feeling as good as a slower rate of loss. If your goal is to look good at an event fast loss may not be what you want to do. You may struggle a lot to maintain that rate of loss as you get closer to your goal weight.
I would suggest 20-40 lbs as being more comfortable and realistic goals for 5 months.
Set your goal with MFP for no more than 2 lbs a week. Log as accurately as you can. Get enough protein, fats and fiber. Include some strength training.

Yes.
I've lost over 50 pounds in 15 weeks, and expect to lose over 60 pounds in 5 months, so it can be done.
There are so many factors that have to be aligned for you to succeed. Even under the most ideal circumstances, many people don't have the long term determination to accomplish this task.
Can you do it? You won't know until you try it. Good luck.

Not likely, but if you start now, you will have made a good bit of progress by then. Even if you set up for an aggressive deficit, there are too many ups and downs with weight loss...it isn't a linear progression.3

You're posing the question in the wrong way, which can set you up for failure and disappointment later. Instead of asking "can I lose X pounds in Y amount of time?", try asking "what can I do to safely lose as much as possible in Y amount of time?" Unless you're planning on carrying a scale around with you at the wedding, nobody will know that you've lost exactly 60 pounds, or 45, or whatever. They'll just notice that you've lost weight. (And honestly, some people might not even notice, since it's your sister's wedding and they'll be focused on her, not you). So, instead of setting yourself up to think 60=success whereas 45=failure, just focus on losing weight=success.14

I’m going for 50 lbs in 7 months. I think it’s very doable with a plan. Yes, it’s aggressive. But it can be done.1

I'm going to agree with the many saying it depends how much you have to lose. I lost my first 60 in six months, so it's possible. I'm 5'3" and started at 280. I took a nine month maintenance break after that because I really needed it. I'm expecting the next 80 to come off much more slowly.
Did someone mention strength training? I definitely recommend lifting while losing. You will look and feel amazing even if you don't get all the weight off right away.3 -

I am planning just about the same thing - towards end of June -- 24 weeks and hoping to be down 50 lbs. -2 lbs. a week. Eating healthier foods in right proportions and doing exercise 6x a week. I just lost 28 lbs. in 10 weeks. I am now only taking 1 diabetic pill instead of two. But I do know that I may not achieve 2 lb. loss every week and probably will have a 2 lb. gain here and there so I am knowing that I might not have lost 50 but will at least be a bit close to it.0
