Yup, third time is the charm ( hopefully ). I am trying to hit my 50s without being obese, and hopefully not overweight. Personally, I dislike the fact that there are various stages of overweight. Yes, I'm overweight, no, I don't like falling into the "you're so overweight, we'll just call you obese" category. So, here I am. Anyone else in this boat with me?

Yup. I've dropped about 20 pounds and have 35 to go. I'm running, shoeshoeing, lifting, and doing yoga. Figure I could spend the last half of my life being athletic and in great shape.3

I had a goal to have a bikini & social media body for my 50th birthday. I almost made it. I did wear the bikini on my birthday but I disallowed photos.4

I turn 50 in September I have about 40 lbs I'd like to lose to get below 200. It's about 36 weeks until my birthday - gonna give it my best shot. Lost 70 lbs last year in the first nine months of the year maybe I'll make it.9

YUP! Although I still have a few years to go. I have 22 unwanted pounds I want to shed this year.0

This site overrunneth with old beasts. Browse and search among the Success Stories. The common thread among them all is log food and lift heavy.3

Depends on what you mean by "shape". I'm a much less rounded shape, but nothing close to being in "shape" (fit, athletic, low BF, etc.).0

"50" is in my rear view mirror, but my goal is to lose at least 50 while in my 50's.

Yes! I turn 50 in six months, and have ~35 lbs to lose. I have the same frustration with the overweight/obese categorizing - not sure what the point is, outside of telling us what we already know.1

I'm just working at it before I turn 62.
Going on river cruise in october in france and don't want to deal with looks of disgust that the french have in regards to fat americans.1 -
With you. 50 in December. Plenty of weight to drop.0

50 I was morbidly obese 60 still morbidly obese rolling into 70 in a few weeks and getting there running 5 times a week fitness class 3 or 4 times a week and swimming so setting a goal be it 50 or 60 or 70 is fine but you are never to old or to late to get healthy
Lost almost 170 pounds was down a bit more but starting to rededicate for the last 30 pounds
If only the snow and this d*m cold eases up7 -
I'm 45. I fear it will take me 5 years to do it, but I am determined to get to my goal weight before then.2

YEEESSS!!! I turn 50 next Jan and my goal this year is to lose 100 lbs.1
-
I started at 48 and finished (-130 lbs) at 50 1/2. I walked into a gym for the first time in my life on my 50th birthday. I still had 80 lbs to go, still morbidly obese. It has been the best thing I've ever done (weight loss and discovering working out). Wish I had done it decades ago, but I get a kick out of knowing I am in better shape than anytime in my life before! I've been in maintenance for 8 months now (I'm 51) and still workout every day. Go for it--best feeling ever!8

Yep! 3 stone (42lbs) to lose! 50 mid March0

Well, depends on what shape you mean. I'm 330 lbs. and have decided I'd like to live to see 50 in 4 years. So yeah - shape, alright! LOL!
But yes - I am. I want 150 lbs gone by 50. It's doable, but I'm a total noob. Tracking has made me a tad horrified, so I'm on day 4 of eating like a normal human. You know, not 4 pounds of sugar and salt by noon? That kind of normal. Only 4 days, and I have to admit I'm already starting to feel better. My body likes this. I don't, my brain is in pure revolt, but my body is doing little cheers. Hrm... does that burn calories??7 -
I wanted to be in shape etc before I was fifty too And guess what? I did it. I hit my goal weight just before my 49th birthday and I am in th best shape of my life. I run 10km, walk cycle and all. Life is great5

Your post inspired me to get to my goal by the time I’m 52 in August. I lost 50 lbs last year and now I would like to lose about 15 more to be at the top of the normal BMI range. I’m just “overweight” now.1

I just turned 48 (Jan. 7) and I am on my downward spiral on the scale.
Heading into my 40s I was over 300 lbs. Last week I was 252. I want to get under 200 lbs.!
I want it more to get weight off my knee joints. I am too young to walk like I am 100!
I startes doing CrossFit and I love it!!!!!!!!! First time in my life that I really enjoy working out (except for swimming/water aerobics).4 -

Yes! I'm 46 and the thought of turning 50 puts me in a deep funk and depression. I think if I turned 50 being in the best shape of my life, that would lessen the pain.4

I turned 49 on January 3rd. And just joined cross fit too. I have always been active -but over the last year or so let life get in the way-I want to feel like an athlete again and my goal is to roar into my 50’s! Good Luck to you!1

I'm hoping to lose 30 lbs by spring break. Beginning of April. Husband and I are taking our 2 boys to SC or FL0
-
All the best everyone! I know when I hit 42 I didn't want to spend the rest of my 40s unfit and fat. I found MFP and been at maintenance for approaching 5 years. Make a start now, you wont regret it5
-
I turn 50 in April by the BMI chart I'm obese. I need to drop out of that category. I've spent all of my 40's rehabbing surgeries fixing the damage I did in my 20's and 30's. I'm rehabbing a shoulder now it still has a few months to go. I think going into my 50's I'm going to reasess my training and my risk versus reward.0

I would like to join, I will be 50 in Oct and need to get under 200 lbs once and for all. My body hurts a lot arthritis, degenerative joint disease, heredity. I can do the elliptical and bike though and a few cybex machines without making the pain worse. Want to get my weight down and hopefully feel better.0
-
Oh yes.. 20lbs by August, body balancing and intermittent Juicing... lost 12lbs in last 3 months even with christmas, birthday trips to New York and Aus!! Got to be possible surely. aiming for 3lb a week so I can start to enjoy the parties..... Good luck for your plans!0

50 is approaching rapidly for me. Also in the same boat and recently decided to dig in and just get it done - no more excuses. Tried a few times before, made progress, but life changes caught me off guard and I abandoned good habits.0
