Too much protein?

Hey Friends - I just started MPF and everyday I'm hitting my goals except for the protein. Apparently I have TOO MUCH protein in my diet. I'm confused because I really don't think I'm eating that much proteins but I'm always in the negative. I think I would starve if I didn't have the proteins.
Anyone else having this issue?

Without numbers it's hard to say. A general rule is 0.8 grams per kg body weight for people trying to lose weight.0

I was told by a nutritionist that I should aim for 100g of protein. MFP doesn't encourage enough protein!0

If you are over on something that is a good thing to be over on! You do need more protein especially when you are exercising. I think that MFP sets protein really low. I always go over on protein and have lost 4 pounds in 2 weeks so I think you are ok if you are going over.0

no such thing ;P0

The default percentages MFP gives you are 55% carbs, 15% protein, and 30% fat. That isn't much protein at all! You could go waaay over that without causing problems.
There IS a limit to how much protein your body can use (probably significantly more than 100 g per day), but if you exceed it, you'll just pee it out. In the long term this is hard on your kidneys, but I doubt most people come anywhere near the limit on a regular basis!0 -
Thank you all for the help!!!
I'm hungry! What's for lunch?0 -
I am always way over with my protein too but I feel much better with lots of protein. My carbs are always low but when I eat alot of carbs I don't well. I think you have to just pay attention to what your own body like. Good luck.0

This. Yes.
My doctor discovered that I have a carbohydrate-intolerant metabolism so I've adjusted my MFP settings to 5% carbs, 30% fat, 65% protein. That works out to about 350g protein a day. And in the four months since I've made that change, my health has steadily improved. The chemical reaction that burns fat also requires protein, and if you don't get enough protein from your food, your body will harvest it from your muscle cells. So I would consider MFP's recommended amount a minimum, not a maximum.
Some people will try to tell you that too much protein causes kidney or liver problems. Not true, unless you have some pre-existing damage to your liver or kidneys. That's like saying that strenuous exercise causes heart failure. Yes, it can, but only if you have a weak heart to start with.
I would not recommend going extremely high-protein like me without a doctor's exam, but I certainly would not worry about going over your MFP recommendations! In fact, I'd encourage it!0 -
I always seem to be over on my protein, by loads if I havent exercised. It doesnt seem to be doing me any harm.0
