How to lose thigh fat and get thigh gap?

Why does it matter WHY she cares about it. Some people care about thigh gaps for a very good reason: chafing. It’s not all about “looks” or being trendy. In my personal experience, I’m about the same build as the original poster of this thread and my thighs chafe like crazy in the summer and it burns and it’s irritating. I know I wouldn’t mind a thigh gap - if my thighs didn’t touch and chafe each other, hallelujah! Maybe she was asking because of something like this, so I don’t think anyone has any right to criticize and laugh on HER post. I, too, wouldn’t mind learning about certain exercises to tone that particular area
Well let’s just say I wanted to lose weight because I want my boobs to shrink. If I came here saying that, I would hope someone would point out to me that weight loss isn’t going to guarantee that result. There’s a lot of factors at play and it just because it COULD happen doesn’t mean it will. I would need to re-examine my goals.9 -

Toning means losing fat that covers the muscles and making the muscle more visible, hence training strength. But you can't spot reduce. Genetics determines where you lose weight first.
But anyway, have a good look at so-called thigh gap photos. Most of them are fake: the girl standing with the bumm to the back and the legs a bit further apart. Or those girls are nearly unhealthily thin.
I'm a bottom heavy hourglass with a thigh gap (ankles and knees touching, standing straight) and a bmi of 21. I wouldn't exactly call myself unhealthily thin Some people are just built that way.7 -

Yes, sorry. Let me clarify: many of those instagram etc photos are fake.2 -
I think your body is beautiful as it is. What a perfect figure! Be thankful for it, and embrace who you are. Thigh gaps are, IMHO, not all that. In fact I never look at a pic of a woman with a thigh gap and think "Oh wow I want to look like that." I think it looks sickly.9

Thigh gap and not chafing are separate things. I probably could never have a thigh gap (don't want one) because I have narrow hips, and my thighs chafe when I'm overweight, but not when I'm not. Thigh gap is about whether your thighs touch when ankles and knees touch, and when you walk they generally would not be touching.
You can't lose fat off the thighs from exercises, either, of course. You can build the thigh muscles so they look more shapely in general, but that won't make them smaller, only losing fat will (and for many women that's going to be the last place they lose and they'd have to sacrifice other areas -- in terms of getting too thin for how they like -- to do so).
Anyway, OP, you look great, but what you want for your body is your business. Cutting too low on calories is not a good idea, and it's probably wise to understand that some things will be possible and some will not (personally I would love to be taller, but it's not happening).5 -

Apparently, i am the other math nerd but to hit your weight goals, you'd have to lose a good amount of muscle.
Here is a breakout of what it should be if you can retain your lean body mass
127 * (1-.23) = 97.79
Goal if between 16 to 20 body fat
97.79÷ (1-..16) / 97.79÷(1-.20) = 116 - 122.
This would also consider that you retain muscle which requires resistance training, adequate protein (~90g+) and a moderate deficit (weight loss at .5 to 1%/week).

Sickly looking woman with thigh gap?
Some of us come by it naturally.
Context is everything.
I think I look quite healthy.
Cheers, h.

Come on people, you don’t have to diss thigh gaps to get the point across to OP that she doesn’t need to have one for whatever reason she wants one. I know plenty of women with beautiful bodies with and without thigh gaps.18

Oh, fun! Take a look! If I stand up straight, no thigh gap. But when I bend just slightly, voila, visible gap!

As others have said, it's genetics or (more often) clever photography.2

Did you actually read the thread? It's genetic...no particular exercise is going to give you a thigh gap...9 -
I just barely have a thigh gap. I'm 5 foot 9 and 135 lbs and I have narrow/straight hips. To be honest, I really wanted one again and now that mine is back, I'm not sure what the point of it is...
Anyways, strength train your legs and eat in a deficit. You need enough of a muscle base in your legs or else they'll just be flabby. And, you need to be lean enough so that the fat from your inner thighs goes.2 -
How to lose thigh fat and get thigh gap?
What is so good about a thigh gap?
https://www.fitnessblender.com/articles/the-truth-about-thigh-gaps-the-myth-about-how-to-get-a-thigh-gap
The thing is that you don't get to pick where you lose fat from and the size of your thighs and width of your hips may be something you can not alter with diet and exercise past a certain point.
You are a healthy weight. Your goal should more reasonable losing .5 lb a week so more like 1,200-1,300 if you are sedentary. If you are active more. If you eat 1,000 calories you are eating below the 1,200 minimum calorie recommendation to get adequate nutrition.
My personal opinion is that your current weight looks good on you. Might be better to just maintain and do more strength training. I understand that it takes a lot of work and time to get bulky muscles so I would not be concerned about that.

Op as others have mentioned thigh gap is based on genetics. I really don't understand where and why this thigh gap trend started and why some women want it. I personally don't care for it, I prefer not to have it but I've lost weight and noticed I actually have it. It makes sense because I'm pear shape with very wide hip bone structure. I'm shorter than you 5'(1.5)2" and weigh 142.5lb and unfortunately I have it even though I'm still not at my goal weight of 125-130lb. You look great as you are, don't stress yourself about it.1

I have thigh gap other than at the very top (cos genetics), and still have to deal with chaffing, just caused by my shorts material rubbing against my thighs instead. So thigh gap isn't a guaranteed saviour from that.6 -

Mine is compounded by the fact my skin takes any excuse to form eczema, so I have to be extra careful.
Oh, I also have those supposedly coveted dimples on my lower back/sacrum area, and a 'bikini bridge' when lying down (my little round belly, which I'm quite fond of, fyi, gets in the way when standing). Envy of teenage girls everywhere4 -
Guess I’m behind on the exact definition and scientifical analysis of the “thigh gap” fad thing. I took it as that she wanted to know how to tone her legs more so the thighs don’t rub against each other - which IS possible without slamming her and people who DO have the so-called “genetic thigh gap.” I clearly was just trying to say that this is a place for questions and advice - not making fun of people for asking simple questions or wanting particular things. If you think it’s dumb/silly that she wants a thigh gap, then just roll your eyes and move on - you don’t have to comment telling her that, ya know.
I don't think people were slamming her, I think they were concerned that she has an unhealthy body image.9 -

Yes, this was my impression. Plus many posters complimented her "lovely hourglass figure."
OP - I agree that you look nice now, but look into strength training if you want to change your body composition.
And eat more6 -

Liposuction and any type of fat freezing or burning causes long-term cell hypertrophy and lots of long-term health problems. It isn't magic. http://roguehealthandfitness.com/dangers-of-liposuction/ You can check this out and https://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/01/weekinreview/01kolata.html, and there is so much more. Liposuction is a dangerous and harmful scam. Short term results do equal the long-term.
