Why is the weight only going to my stomach

I gained 6 pounds and i noticed it only went to my stomach i look kind of funny, it looks like i have tooth pick legs and a pot belly. Can it be another reason besides genetics ?

Yea i gained the weight fast and i wanted to get to my goal weight first then start weight training2

You want to gain muscle and fat at the same time, otherwise if you gain all fat, then when you want to build muscle, you will be putting on muscle and more fat which is not a great plan body composition wise.
Start lifting now, follow a program for best results.11 -

Is it the Optimum nutrition one?
If so and the recipe hasn't changed it is 1250 calories a serving so packs a good amount of calories.
You can add powdered oats to any whey protein as well.
Gaining weight is about eating more calories than you burn.2 -

It will only make you gain weight if you are in a surplus and genetics determines where the fat goes. So you don't get to choose where you gain.1 -

Fast weight gain = fast fat gain which generally occurs the most in the stomach. Waiting until you gain the weight before you start lifting is a good way to just get fat. And since muscle gains favor the lean, its much better off to get lean first and then build up your body.

I am not gaining right now, I am cutting. But I gain at anything over 3k. I am a volume eater, so I have no issue eating enough, but for those who do, below is a good thread (link 1). I'd recommend having a small deficit and following a good progressive overload lifting program (link 2) so not all your gains are fat.
But fast weight gain = fast fat gain. And generally when people gain fat quickly (as demonstrated by every single apetamin thread), it has gone straight to the stomach.

That's the problem, building muscle requires a surplus of calories, you basically wasted an opportunity to gain muscles at it's maximum potential during the weight gain. It isn't lost of course, but the problem is now you say you look fatter, so you have to cut back the weight and basically start over again.
Just remember this, to build muscles, you need to train and eat at a surplus (ideally a slight surplus), there are exceptions to that rule, but that's a whole other topic.1
