Welcome! Keep coming back here for support, motivation and to keep your goals a priority. Weigh food on a food scale to track accurately. Make small, achievable goals for yourself and acknowledge your hard work at losing each and every pound.2

I lost about 70 pounds in 2007 and I've kept it off.
Log. Food.
What I did was studied and learned from my food diary. I was also an emotional eater, so I started a food journal where I wrote down what I was feeling when I over-ate, what I ate, and how I felt afterwards - both physically and emotionally.
Then the other issues in my life became clearer and I started to find solutions.

Embrace the process. Become a relentless tracker. When you make goal, don’t stop.2

If you want to be successful,
don't have timelines for results you can't directly control. You lose weight when you consistently eat less, but 80 pounds in a year is not realistic.
don't look outside for motivation. Your motivation is your why and how - why you want to lose weight, and how you're actually going to do it.
don't look for tips - instead, get real information and learn how to distinguish truth from scams, and how to apply information to your own situation, preferences and style of learning/thinking.1 -
After being overweight most of my life and obese for a time, I lost 80 pounds in 2012 - 2013 all on my own at home.
I've kept it all of without any regain. Losing the weight has changed my life. Lots of hard work but it was completely worth it.
What worked for me is:
- Taking baby steps. I couldn't make a bunch of life changes overnight. Too overwhelming! So one by one I focused on small things. Replacing one of my sodas with water. Trying a new vegetable I've never had before in a new recipe. Small things like that really added up and set me up nicely to make permanent lifestyle changes (which makes maintaining the weight loss easier IMO).
- Finding workouts and activities I enjoyed. At first all I could do is walk slowly for a short time. But as my fitness level increased, I tried new things and discovered what I liked and what I didn't like.
- Keeping a food journal. I lost half of my weight before discovering MFP. Everyday I wrote down what I ate, the workouts I did, I recorded my weight once a week and my measurements once a month. This worked well for me and I still do this in maintenance. I find it really helps me to stay on track.
- Planning my meals out in advance and cooking almost all of my meals at home helps me too. I know or at have an idea of the meals I'm going to eat in advance. This helps for grocery shopping purposes as well.
- I like learning so I did a lot of research and reading on the science behind fat loss and how hormones in the body work with losing weight etc. You can still find me at the library checking out books on health, fitness and nutrition.
- Learning about myself such as my eating habits, how different foods affected the way I felt and the foods that triggered me to eat more etc. helped out a lot.
- Last but not least being consistent was the key for me. Since about month 3 of starting to lose the weight I've been on it. Planning and tracking my food. Consistent workouts and activity. Staying in control during holidays, parties, vacations and events.
You can do it too if you're willing to put in the work for it. Good luck dear!6 -
