Fluctuating weight?!!

ok I've managed to lose just under 9lbs. I weighed myself twice today (I know it's bold but I'm curious) there was a MASSIVE difference in weight!

I first weighed myself at 20:00 just after exercising. I did c25k and 30ds. I burned 603kcal in total (I wore a HRM) and I was starving so I had a massive dinner, yogurt, cup of tea and a bar of chocolate and I was still well under my kcal goal.

My net kcals were 1287 and I can eat up to 1490 a day. (I'm 6' and currently weigh 250lbs) I weighed myself just before bed and the scales says I was up 3lbs!!! Is this normal? Am I freaking out for no reason?

What should I eat after exercise that's filling? I'm not a massive veggie/fruit fan so I have to force feed myself. I didn't drink much water today either and because I did my workout late I ate just before 21:00. Is this too late to be eating???

Very frustrated!!

oo and fiber one bars. my fave :D
  • I've seen big fluctuations in my weight within a day, too. So to combat this, I no longer weigh myself multiple times a day :)

Yes it's normal. Think about it, you are weighing yourself PLUS all the food you just ate and the liquid you drank. For best most accurate results weigh yourself first thing in the morning when you wake up and after going to the bathroom

    Dont stress

You have to weigh yourself jsut once a day, and some people only do it once a week. If you do it more than once a day, it will fluctuate like crazy. Like, Ive just been learning about net calories and im WAY low, and yet i still gained 3 lbs from this morning. But tomorrow mornign, ill be down most likely. So no need to worry so long as your net is over 1200 but under your goal, and you are working out.

It's totally normal for your weight to fluctuate by 2-4 pounds a day, even if you're doing everything right. It's probably all just water weight. I'm trying to get into the habit of weighing once or twice a week (I used to neurotically check 1-4 times a day and it really just makes a person miserable!) but I know the temptation is always there to check. Try checking only once a week, and if that's too hard to do, maybe twice a week. If that's still too much and you feel like you need to check every day, try to do it at the same time every day (say right when you wake up, before breakfast, without clothes so the outfit doesn't factor into the number.) Also, it's very normal for women to put on 2-4 pounds in water weight just before their period, so that's something else to consider. Those pounds come off immediately afterward!

You were actually seeing the effects of the food you ate...it had no time to be digested etc...if you ate 6 pounds of carrots and a liter of water and got immediately on the scale you would weigh 6 pounds more at least...let your body do something with it..and eliminate the waste...and that is when you see a loss...you will also find you will lose if you weight immediately before a workout and then immediately after...that is if you don't replace every ounce of water that your sweat...drink some water and you will be back where you were...weigh in once or twice a week....or this can make a person crazy

Weight is a crazy thing...it can fluctuate SO much throughout the day! I know it's hard but it's best to just weigh yourself when you first get up (after a good pee and get naked)
Getting on the scale anytime after that is just asking for disappointment!
As for the snack after your workout I like to eat honey roasted nuts or cashews. They do have 13 g of fat but it's the "good fat" so I just make sure I have enough fat left in my day for them. Really fills you up too. Good luck to you!

Our weight can fluctuate a lot through out the day, totally normal. It depends on how recently you've eaten, how recently you've gone to the bathroom, etc. Weighing yourself right after working out can also add weight if your muscles are retaining water.

Weight yourself once a week, same time, naked, after peeing but before eating for best results. If you can't help yourself and must weight everyday, do it only once, same time, etc etc.

Thanks guys, might look into protein shakes/bars and I'll hide the scales
  • I would recommend weighing in ar beginning of day before taking in foods and liquids which will fluctuate your weight. I weigh first thing in morning before eating breakfast or drinking anything.
