I just started losing weight and feel so discouraged. Eating less than 2,000 calories a day, all vegan, no fizzy drinks, start weight 25 stone 7, now weigh 26 stone 2.5 lbs, a week and a half later. Feel like slashing my calories to 1,000 because obviously I'm just a big fat pig. Any advice on how to cut to that level safely and lose that weight quickly?

stop trying to lose the weight quickly.
stop mistaking water weight for fat.
weight loss isnt linear.11 -
Do not drop to 1000 calories unless a doctor is monitoring your progress and has approved of that.
Were you weighing at the same time on the same scale? Did you begin exercising? Is it nearing your TOM? For it to be 9.5 pounds of fat you would need to eat about 33,000 calories over maintenance. So if your weighing situations were similar, it’s water weight.1 -
You don’t mention how you are calculating that you are eating 2000 calories - are you weighing all your solids and semi-solids and only using cups and measuring jugs for liquids? Double checking all entries are correct? Not eye balling or using “serving size” guidance on the packaging?4

Hang in there Emily, it’s a long slow road but we can do this, & we will. Doesn’t matter how long it takes, if we fall down just get back up & start again. Good luck2

Well on one hand your account is brand new so you do have to give it some time.
On the other hand big water weight variations are indeed possible especially for people of a higher weight.
Time of the month for women, sodium, new exercise can all cause an increase in water weight.
At the same time for people with certain health concerns a sudden and unexpected increase in weight together swelling may be a very good reason to visit a doctor, outpatient facility, or emergency room...3 -
gaining 9 pounds in a week and a half is unlikely.
water weight, TOM, normal weight fluctuations can all play a part though.
are you weighing all your food on a scale? if not, you need to.3 -
Don't slash so fast, give it at least 3 -4 weeks see how your body balances out before you weigh in again. I'm new to this also, but From what I read at the initial email , If you follow the macros recommendation exactly you are guaranteed to lose weight. We just need to trust the process , stay committed and disciplined to log our meals.Dont be discouraged!3

Don't be hard on yourself, give it time. Weight fluctuates a lot. Some great advice from others already.0

I'm less than half your weight and I can easily go up 2, 3 or even 4kg just by eating more salt the day before or it being that time of month... 1 week is not a lot, give it a bit more time?1

How we talk to ourselves can be damning. By saying you are a "big fat pig" as you did in your post, it can bring your self esteem lower. Even trigger emotional eating or eating disorders. Never put yourself down. Hugs

I started at 27 stone 6lb, my last weigh in had me at 16st 12lb
My weight can swing wildly from water retention from TOTM, a higher carb meal, higher salt intake etc
A 7+ pound overnight gain for me is fairly normal variation
I would suggest buying a food scale if you don't own one and weighing all your food
First time I weighed cereal was a real eye opener, I was eating more than 3 servings without realising it3 -
I think something is off somewhere: time of weighing, different scale, tracking inaccurately. Be careful what you pick from the database.I'd pick in the middle to high range. Also, i can gain 9 lbs in a week and a half. You'd notice you were eating more. It's easier to gain if sweets are involved. I don't normally see more than a three or 4 lb variation. So you probably did overeat. It doesn't mean you have to eat 1000 calories though when you make some adjustments.0

Make sure you weigh everything with kitchen scales (preferably digital) there's no such thing as a medium potato or small banana its all subjective, get out the kitchen scales and weigh what you eat including weekends, cheat meals, alcohol, finishing your kids left overs, unintended snacks, everything. Also are you measuring and counting things like cooking oil and condiments. Also what date did you take your starting weight and when did you take your current, was it the same set of bathroom scales, did you change the batteries? Could it be hormonal water weight gains due to TOM? Are you eating back exercise calories? There is no reason to have 1000 calories a day unless under medical supervision.0

yep me too I was having 100g of Muesli instead of the 40g recommended by eyeballing my portion! When I started weighing so many things jumped out, baked potatoes, peanut butter (the 1 tablespoon was logging was actually 30g when I started weighing which is 2 tablespoons!) also the milk and half sugar in my teas added up to 200 cals a day when I totted them up. So many hidden calories you forget about.
