Mfp gave me 1800 calories to lose 1 pound a week. I'm 5'8" 195 pounds, lightly active female. I teach fitness classes 4 times a week and trying to get off this 20 pounds that has crept on.
I've done weight watchers in the past and have been successful. I'm really going to give mfp my all this time. Just curious if other women have seen success on this calorie allotment. Thanks for your insight!!

I was actually thinking of changing my goals to 0.5lb/wk (1880cals) because currently I am at just below 1600 and I am running out of steam during the day and my workouts.

I weigh 195-200 and my goals are set to net 1200 but what I usually end up eating is 1800-1900 just plus exercise, so I'm not exactly going for the 1800 allotment but as it is my rate is about 1.5 pounds of loss per week. I feel like 1800 should work fine for you as long as you're not overestimating (which I really struggle with!) and weighing your food if possible. Good luck!

Hi! I'm 5'9", 172#. MFP has me at just under 1800 and I've been losing pretty consistently! As long as you're logging accurately, you should be able to lose on 1800.

I'm 5'8" and around 220lbs on my active days I eat around 2000 calories (1650-1750 on non-active days) and lost around 1lb per week on average over the year. So for 20lbs to go that seems fine enough for your stats.

I'm eating 1810 calories a day, and losing between 1 and 1.5 lbs a week. I'm 5'5" and currently at 193 lbs. When I exercise, I eat back around 50% of my exercise calories and it's seems to keep it consistent to the rate of loss I want.

Just depends on your activity level. I waver between 1200 calories and maintenance, depending on the day and what training I have planned but am typically higher. What I've found is that more calories helps you go longer without burning out. And I'd rather lose a bit more slowly than burn out and regain. So I'd recommend giving it a try or even doing 0.5lb / week first (should be about 250 calories higher) to let your body and mind adapt.

I am 5' 4.75" and 117 lbs. 1800 calories per day would definitely have me losing. My goal right now is actually a slow bulk 1825 (below maintenance) on non-lifting days and 2225 (above maintenance) on lifting days, but apparently I'm not that disciplined over the holidays. I averaged 2307 calories per day for all of December, and only put on about 1.5 lbs.

Right now I'm fluctuating between 170-172 pounds, eating 1800 calories and losing. I lift weights 6 days a week with cardio after each weight lifting session. I also have a desk job so am pretty sedentary throughout the day.

Male, 5'10" - losing weight on 1800/day. I can't sustain this for long and will bump it back up to around 2300-2500 soon for a lean bulk once I shed about 6-8 more lbs.

I'm 5'5" and 170lbs have been eating 1900 calories and consistently losing 1lb a week. I'm definitely sedentary because of winter.

Well yes, I'm much shorter at 5ft 2 and I can lose 0.5lb/week eating 1700 calories, I'm lightly active.
I maintain on around 1950-2000 cals.

You sound active so it should be a breeze for you to lose if you eat 1800 plus some exercise calories back too.

    All the best

I think the theory is that a higher calorie intake will keep you on your plan because your stomach won’t be growling all the time. I weigh 206, heading down to my goal of 150 this summer. I eat 1200-1500 calories per day of a Mediterranean style plan, depending how I feel. The fat, fiber, and protein in my diet keep me feeling satisfied and not craving the candy bar.

I'm 5ft 7in and I seem to be losing on 2k cals. I'm guessing it depends on your consistency and workouts. I could probably lose more if I worked out more, but I'm at the very end of my journey so I don't mind things going slow. I know when I was aiming for 1lb loss a week I had my cals set to 1800 and it was incredibly difficult to stay around that range for a long time.

My gross calorie intake is anywhere between 1900-2400 per day to lose 1lb per week, only times I haven't lost are when I have eaten at maintenance around vacations and Christmas diet breaks. Lost 35lbs last year.

    5'8" 220lbs and aiming for 185lbs initially.

Me! 5'9", 235-ish, aiming for 175. 1800-ish feels pretty good to me--it's high enough to where I'm not hungry all the time, but low enough to keep me losing at a good clip. My daily intake ranges from about 1600-2100, so it's more what you might call "guidelines".

I'm not just a woman losing on 1800+ calories, I'm also short (5'2"). I've went from 208 to 168 last year averaging at least 2000 a day (net). My average loss has been a bit under a pound a week at that rate, which is perfectly fine with me - I don't love being hungry but I do love eating out! This year I'm angling to get down to about 1700-1750 to reach my goal of 135 by the end of the year, but I'm still in the 1800+ club for a month or so at least.

Great loss! I'm a shortie too. I started on here properly in September last year and since then I've lost 21lb eating anywhere from 1700-2000+. Like you, I'm happy to lose slow and steady... I want to eat in a way I can maintain for life

I was on 1200-1500 but kept going over so I have changed my goal to 0.5lb a week at 1800 calories. I think the reason I kept going over is because my maintenance is nowhere near 1800.. it’s more like 2300 calories a day.. so on 1800 I should lose a pound a week, not even a half a lb like myfitnesspal predicts. I had my activity set to sedentary but truth is I workout for 1-2 hours most days. I also walk everywhere ( live In a major city) and I live a very active lifestyle when I’m not sick or working. I’ll let you know how this goes... I’m doing 1800 calories per day for maybe a few days and then I’ll reassess but I have a feeling it will become long term :) good luck and here’s to your goals for the new year! 2notz6i9acut.png

If you can eat more do it! I walk everywhere also, nobody wants to see me driving :s I find eating too low leaves me lacking in energy and feeling ill. Food is fuel :)

So good to see all you ladies who are eating well and losing well. While I love my MFP pals, it's pretty lonely being practically the only one with an open diary showing numbers over 1200.

    This!!! All of this!
