I am pretty close to my goal (yay!) and I have been planning for maintenance. I feel pretty confident with everything that I've learned about calorie counting. My question is a weird one...for those who have lost and maintained did you ever hit a period of disbelief? Like...am I really this small now? And did you worry about maintaining? It's like the mental side hasn't fully caught up to the physical. I know I'm smaller, I see the numbers drop, I am buying smaller clothes, I can see a change in the mirror (so no body dysmorphia)but I still am surprised sometimes. I tried on pants today in a much smaller size than I'm used to and my first thought was "no way. These must be mislabeled", so I grabbed another pair to confirm. And then I get a little paranoid, like this is a fluke and surely it won't last. Even though I know I have all the tools to maintain. Curious to see if others have been through that and when did your brain catch up and accept the change!

Congrats on getting close to your goal! It's an amazing feeling I know!
I'm in year 5 of keeping 80+ pounds off and even now sometimes I still can't believe it.
For example shopping in juniors section some the clothes still look so small to me, but I try them on and they fit perfectly. Or I might catch a reflection of myself in a mirror or window and think wow, I really did it!
It has gotten better with each year of maintenance, but being overweight practically all of my life, it has been quite an adjustment being in a normal size and at a healthy weight.13 -
Yes I can relate, it really does take the head a while catching up with the body, I reckon it was a year before I realised that I was indeed slim.
(I'm approaching 5 years at maintenance)
Congrats!7 -

Sometimes I think I'm dreaming. I really thought I'd never be lean again.5

I feel like it's a little tougher with me because I ended up skinny fat once I got goal weight, lost too fast and didn't lift during the loss, so I lost a decent amount of muscle.
Now I'm working on body composition and I think I'll believe myself to be slim as I work thru that.2 -
Every day. I don't know whether I'll ever see myself as not a fat person anymore. It's even stranger for me because I moved across the country in the same month I started maintenance, so no one here even knows that I used to weigh 100 pounds more than I do now.3
