Hello! Like you, I am overweight and I also have back issues. Thankfully I am still able to function without the need of medication however. What I do suggest being that you are bed ridden is to try and reach out to a nutritionist and see if they could assist with meal plans. I don't know your medical condition causing back pain, but maybe once you lose a bit of weight, you can start becoming more active again and can start losing some more. Just take one day at a time. Use the calorie counting tool on here and track what you eat. Cut out all sugary drinks and only drink water and of course tea and coffee without cream/sugar. That alone will allow you to lose a few pounds. Best of luck to you!3 -

Well, it is as simple as eating less. That's all you have to do. You don't have to exercise, go on some weird diet that is hard to stick to, just eat under maintenance calories. What people find hard is getting used to not being able to eat the amounts of food they did before. They don't want to change their eating habits, which then does make it hard to lose weight.6 -
Start logging your food, whatever you're eating now.
Here's a good thread to help you find foods that you want to enter...the food database of Myfitnesspal can be cluttered sometimes and it's important to find accurate entries.
How to use the USDA Food Database with MFP
I just want to encourage you that when I lost my weight all my physical aches and pains went away. Good nutrition and good health and a little exercise work miracles, truly.3 -

eat less and move what you can.
Can you move your arms? do that.
Can you wiggle your feet. do that.
Every single movement you make can contribute to your total expenditure.
Control what you can. Calories in, and move what you can.1 -

I agree regarding eating less, but try to make what you eat more healthful, satisfying to taste and filling. Best wishes to you. I have back issues as well and have to be really careful. I walk and I do Leslie Sansone Walk at home workouts. Not for you right now, but maybe as the weight comes off. I did very little way back in the beginning, but gradually increased what I could do and that along with healthy eating helped me to lose 82#. One day at a time.0

While that's true, do you think that it's constructive or helpful to the person seeking advice?3 -

Pain makes you sedentary and sedentary leads to more pain. It's a revolving cycle, but unfortunately it is sometimes all you can do to get from the bed to a chair. I know--been there and still deal with flares and setbacks.
Moving for me is key to relieving some discomfort in my back and other places.
I have degenerative disc disease, bulging discs, cervical stenosis from opll (getting ready to have major surgery to correct), psoriatic arthritis, and other things. I could hardly move at times and was advised to do water aerobics which I have for about 8 months. Now I am able to ride the stationary bike for an hour (could only do 7 minutes the first time I tried), and Leslie Sansone's walk at home videos.
This is my situation and I'm just letting you know that even though you may feel like your situation may not change, it is possible---I don't know what your condition entails, but if you are able to get in a pool and exercise or just move around, it may be beneficial to you. It was a game changer for me along with finding the right meds to control the pain so that I could get moving.
Best of luck in finding some relief and your journey to lose weight.0
