3 weeks in and not seeing weight loss

Why does it seem like my body is holding onto weight?! I mean, I am a pretty overweight 29 year old woman at 273 pounds, and have been on a pretty strict diet for 3 weeks and I am seeing absolutely nothing. I am getting frustrated and ready to throw in the towel, but I am talking myself out of it. I have struggled with weight my whole ENTIRE life. I have been a type one Diabetic since I was 9, diagnosed with Hypothyroidism at age 20, plus I gained about 70 pounds while pregnant in 2014. I am at a loss of what to do. I started researching keto diets yesterday and think that this would be the best route for me. I find that when I cut carbs, that's when I lose the amount of weight I need to. I guess I just feel like I need some guidance and support... so any would be appreciated!

A few things come to mind. If you started new exercise it can hold on to water weight, so can too much sodium. If you're not weighing what you eat you may be eating more than you think you are. Keto is good for those who don't get satisfied from carbs, so if that's you keto may very well help you stay in a deficit. So how's your tracking, are you using a food scale? If not, buy one and weigh your portions for a month and see where you're at.7

I think the first thing that is usually suggested is that you make sure you're eating the number of calories you think you eat. Do you measure all your food with a scale? Once it's measured do you log everything including milk for tea, condiments, that bunch of five grapes you picked up when walking past them?
It would also be good to know what your current weight and height are and how many calories you're eating a day.5 -
I think maybe switch up what your doing try the low carb and see what happens... I’ve been doing low carb for 3 weeks now and it’s my first time ever doing a low carb diet... I love that I feel full longer that stops me from snacking on crap and cuts down my cravings BUT I thought I would see dramatic weight loss on low carb but instead it’s been about a pound a week.. I’m not complaining I’m just surprised I had the same results on low calorie/ high carb diet too but I guess the difference is I feel better doing low carb7

I guess a few questions here.
1. Are both of your medical conditions under control via medication?
2. Have you started a new exercise regimen? (This will cause your body to retain fluids for muscle repair)
3. When you log your food, are you ensuring that you're using accurate entries or are you using generic ones? Are you using a food scale for all solids/semi-solids and measuring all liquids?

It was day 45 before I lost my first pound of weight when I went LCHF Oct 2014. 30 days in my joint pain had dropped from a long term level of 7-8 to 2-3 and I had lost an inch at my waist. I didn't even know it was possible to lose fat without losing weight.
Now turning 67 my pain is >1 most of the time, lost another 50 pounds eating all I want of my 5% carbs, 20% protein and 75% fact macros.
Keto/LCHF seems to be greatly slowing down my rush to a premature death. There is nothing magical about keto but it seems that way when I see my improving health and health markers and the freedom to eat all that I want as long as stick more or less with the macros above.
No more carb craving/binging urges after the first 30 days gives me a freedom I have not had the last 40 years of my life.
@Momonamission2018 I think keto may be a great option for you since you have an interest to try it. With that being said you must work with your healthcare providers because of your long term health factors but I am sure you know that. Getting some eating advice is fine but only get your medical advice from your current or new if required healthcare professionals.
At my age and 40 years of yo-yoing weight with 100%+ regains after each weight loss and my health failing fast I decided to stop dieting to lose weight forever more. Moving to eating whatever seems to improve my health and stop eating whatever seems to hurt my long term health since has worked out well in my case.
It is funny did not even know what keto was but on a hunch thought cutting out sugar and all forms of all grains might help reduce my pain levels and it has since Oct 2014. At the same time for mental clarity I got heavy into using coconut oil and that worked well. I learned more about Keto in another MFP sub forum then started to limiting my daily carb level to around 50 grams while meant I was doing keto.
If keto is not for you then you will find another solution if you keep your focus on improving your health. There are many keto food options. While I eat breakfast at home I tend to eat the other two out or at the office. I have gotten good at doing keto in fast food places with McDonald's being my go to place locally. It is hard to find unlimited great coffee with all the half and half cream you want for $0.59 at most places.
Best of success.12 -

Do you have a regular menstrual cycle? My lowest weight usually happens a few days into my period, when I have a whoosh and I can see my weight loss best when comparing weights from that week. So maybe wait a few more weeks? I always give it 1 cycle before adjusting my calories because of this.1

Thank you everyone for your feedback!! I will start taking all of these things into consideration. I have to say, after being on Keto for one day.. I feel awesome... haven't been hungry or craving sugar. Amazing what cutting a bunch of carbs out of your diet will do7

Keto is a Great alternative ! I have been on it for 8-9 months with 75 pounds lost so far. It’s a very different style of eating & much more satisfying than other diets that have failed in the past. This ap is AWESOME for tracking and keeping your ratios in line for optimizing results. You must enter everything that you consume for results. GOOD LUCK !!!4

Thank you @robanntyler! What is the App called?1

This ap Momonamission2018, able to track everything consumed, it automatically calculates calories, carbs, fats & protein. This is vital for achieving Keto & burning the fat.2

Hey Mom ! Also Atkins has a free ap which I also like, has a great search feature & a great list of recipes.2

3 weeks is too early to tell. Have you restricted your calories too much? because if so its going to be hard to stick to. Carbs are not the enemy, to lose weight we have to be in calorie deficit ie take in less calories than we burn.
Glad to see you have now lost some weight, thats great
All the best.1 -
