Just got a horse. Time to stop this self-neglect.

I was much bigger. But a year ago I lost enough weight to horse ride. I was only allowed to ride because I still retained some skill from my past and didn't bounce on the horses' back. Well I'm super glad they let me as I've now got my own horse. She's healthy, fit, smart and kind. I feel alive and with purpose. To be her partner for the next decade and more I need to up my game. Because a horse can't lie and she won't show me pity.
I have always looked in MFP but kept telling myself I'd sign up tomorrow. Maybe 100x and more. Well now I've managed it as I'm fed up of being unfit. I want to be her equal and do her proud. And part of me finds it strange that the opinion of my horse matters more than anyone else's. I think I was, or am, that depressed.
Having friends would be amazing as I'm living with my obese mother who has absolutely no self-restraint in what she buys and cooks. I cannot altogether avoid it so I have to learn to make the right choice. How can I ask my horse to be so disciplined and well mannered when I can't even stop myself pigging out? It's just not right.
So here I am. Thank you.

Love horseback riding. It is the only workout that I don't even notice I am exercising!2

My daughter just started horseback riding and I've always wanted to but I always said "I'll lose some weight first" well, I was tired of waiting for that day to come and just signed up for lessons. I am super excited to do this and a little scared but it has been my motivation to keep on track. And plus, like you said, if the horse is expected to give his/her all for me, I can give him/her the same respect. Happy riding!1

Got 3 of my own 2 could handle my weight but my third is such a little guy it's motivated me to lose! 20lbs down and I notice I can ride so much better already, still looking to lose a bunch more! Add me if you'd like!1

I can understand why you value your horses opinion! They are beautiful and majestic animals but they do like to run and be carefree.
With that being said I also love in a household where 4 of the 5 people are considered obese. I'm included in that. My mom does the cooking which is not always healthy but I work nights and go to college so making meals everyday is out of the question. I eat what she cooks usually just take smaller portions and fit it into my s. This is third time here, and each time.it worked.wonderfully but then I would stop counting calories and presto. Weight gain. What I'm trying to say is that living in a house with others who don't care about food is hard, but mind over matter will.prevail. Eat smaller portions, buy your own snacks and kick the weight in the butt. Good luck!1 -

Goodness doesn't it make a difference? When I started I couldn't trot for more than a minute o,O. And let's not get started on balancing! I will definitely add!janelleginnetto wrote: »I can understand why you value your horses opinion! They are beautiful and majestic animals but they do like to run and be carefree.

Thanks so much and yes that's a big issue. I'm fortunate to see a cucumber in the fridge. It's more stocked up with chocolate and coke. If I want a healthy snack there is no option. I have to starve or eat junk. Time to try and do a little shopping of my own even if it's just nut bars.Love horseback riding. It is the only workout that I don't even notice I am exercising!
Definitely. I've been doing a TON of stirrup-less work with my instructor and I discovered my ab muscles. My horse, Katie, arrives tomorrow. I'm hoping once she's settled in and been fitted for tack I can ride 4 days a week. I cannot WAIT!
Thank you so much guys.0 -

That is so exciting! I am so jealous! Always wanted a horse but live in the city. Take care of her and yourself! Good luck! You will make lots of new friends in the horse community if you open yourself up and smile at everyone!0
