Question for MEN only
Hey guys,
Any of you have a vasectomy? Any regrets, issues, problems, concerns? I'm going to do mine sometime before the end of August, not sure when though. I already had my initial consultation so it's just a matter of making the appointment. Some background: I'm almost 45 yrs old, I have 2 kids under the age of 10, I've been single for 2 yrs (divorced), and I'm in pretty good health.
Any input from you guys is greatly appreciated.

I haven't done one but could I ask why your doing it? Just interested as this is my first incounter of anyone asking this question.0

I had one in 1996. I was recently divorced and had two children. No regrets whatsoever. But I caution you. When the doctor tells you to take it easy for a couple of days, do it. Don't walk too much, just sit as much as you can. And buy some frozen peas. Sounds crazy I know. Use the bag of frozen peas as an ice pack. It allows the bag to mold around your testicles.
Good luck.0 -

I had it done a few years ago and to be quite honest it was no big deal as long as you take the advice of the doctor and rest for a couple of days after, the tube they need to get to is in a different place on on all of us, some are lucky and the tube is near the top and some are not so lucky and the tube is quite deep down, mine was deep down and yet it still was no big deal. Some things that the doc may forget to tell you is that you will have a small lump where they seal the tube, that is there for life, and you will will have small amounts of blood in your semen for a little while. Hope this helps0

Oh....there are a couple things to look out for.
1.) When they are messing around down there, you'll feel it in your stomach, tugging/pulling....my dad actually got one, and became un-numb before the cutting LOL.
2.) You will itch like hell when everything decides to grow back from what I understand LOL.0 -
and you will will have small amounts of blood in your semen for a little while. Hope this helps
So you still have semen? I thought you just didn't ejaculate anymore...that's good to know, I was seriously thinking that LOL.0 -

So true. I thought he was ripping my f*cking stomach through my sack during the procedure. But it happens really fast and then it's over. No big deal. But someone above posted that you should take it easy. DO IT. You'll feel like you can walk around and lift stuff and be fine. If you do that, you're going to hate yourself. I'd recommend doing it sometime around when football starts again, that way you can lay around with frozen peas on your balls and watch football all day.0 -

No, you still shoot out. It's like diet j*zz. Same look, zero swimmers.0 -
I have not had one, it's against my religion to have it done. However, I have a friend who had it done and here's what he said:
#1- You balls might swell to the size of large grapefruit.
#2- Ice the boys as much as possible or the swelling will last longer and so will the pain.
And to top it all off, the surgery does not always work.0 -
Its a fact, there is a high rate of "V's" on the wednesday before the NCAA basketball tourney.
:ohwell:
Good luck man.0 -

Do you tell girls this to get them to swallow?? lmao0 -
Had one right after my third child was born. Didn't take. After a humiliating year of jacking out new samples for measurement, I had a second Vasectomy. This one did take.
Worked for us. My wife does not have to endure hormone treatment or the long term effects. Had no effect on performance for me.0 -
curiosity got the best of me fellas...
But I feel like I should chime in because my hubby recently had this done as well and he had a little issue afterward that I feel like you should know about. Definitely not a reason NOT to do it, but I feel like he would have felt better if he had known what was going on.
About 2 months after the procedure, healing was complete and the tests showed that he had no little swimmers, but suddenly he was having pain during ejaculation. He went to the doc and was told that it was probably a prostate infection (which it was, and cleared up just fine with antibiotics) Apparently prostate helps aid in semen production and after the procedure it can get 'blocked up' with those little guys trying to get out with nowhere to go. You still produce semen and sperm, the sperm just don't have anywhere to go and can cause a 'clog' before they are able to be absorbed by the body, hens the infection. Minor and common but still better to know about ahead of time in case you start to feel 'weird' down there after some time has passed.
Sorry, I know this was for guys only but I felt like it was useful info0 -
Are you sure you are done with children? Try not to get any childless young ladies to fall in love with you most want babies eventually. Oh my brother had it done and his wife comments about how great it is all the time. :ohwell: lol0

Agree w/ the above - defintely take it easy and avoid excesive walking for a couple of days. I had mine done on a Friday morning and was back at work on Monday - no problemd. It's a great choice to make . . .
BTW - I'm married, father of 2 and my wife and I decided that 2 was all we wanted for children. (# 2 was a wonderful "surprise", but decided that we didn't want a 3rd "surprise"). I had it done about 5 years ago and I have noticed no change in my libido/desire, stamina or feeling when I "finish".
**Just remember it doesn't prevent you from catching any diseases ... so be careful out there (since your single).
Good Luck !!!!0 -
I guess everyone is different.....I didn't bleed when I ejaculated, believe me I was nervous! It did hurt, I'm not going to lie!! According to my doctor, it also increases the chances of testicular cancer.....not sure on that! Definately, take it easy afterwards, I didn't and I paid for it with grapefruit sized nuts.......and hurt for a soild week! Otherwise, no regrets!!0

Sorry guys, couldn't resist. My hubby had it done in 99 and complains about feeling the "scar tissue" when he coughs. But he would do it again in a heartbeat.0
-
Can I answer for my husband? Because I know what he would say? It wasn't fun, but only 48 hours of light discomfort after the procedure -- like someone had kicked him in the balls. A dull ache, he said.
I think he was a little nervous to ejaculate the first time (he waited for 3 days I think), but nothing felt different.
I do feel little "scar tissue", like tiny little nubbies where they cauterized the tubes, but they're fun to play with. He gets a LOT more action now that I'm not afraid of getting knocked up. Shooting blanks is FUN!
We were certain this was the route we wanted to take, so there are no regrets. If, 10 years down the road, you change your mind, you can always adopt one of the countless unwanted children or have a reversal done.0 -

He's 45. He's probably not interested in "childless young ladies" who are silly enough to fall in love with a sterile man and still want babies - at least not interested in them longer than a few rolls0 -

And this is why the women endure the pregnancies, hours upon hours of intense labor where you make noises like a cow, and pushing a small human through your vagina. And the afterbirth, and the recovery time.
::edit:: and the early weeks of breastfeeding before your nipples toughen up, did I mention that hurts worse than unmedicated labor?
Go ahead and cry if you like. :laugh:0 -
I had it done in 2007 after my 2nd.. I was 39 and we were done..... no big deal.. had it done on Friday, took Monday off as a precaution, but all went fine.. I was walking around in practically no pain the next day... no complications etc... continue to use protection until the samples come back clean..
also, get recommendations on a good urologist from your PCP.0 -

No women endure pregnancy because you guys were devious and ate the apple then convinced the hubby to eat it too getting you both in deep poop with the big guy.:laugh:0 -

 A more accurate account was that Eve was deceived; Adam made a deliberate and willful choice.
Besides, it's not our fault that we're beautiful :drinker:0 -

Blah! Not true. Eve believed satan and ate the apple against direct order of God, then basically handed it to Adam like "see, it's ok" so he ate it too.
Women are beautiful and if my wife said "eat the darn fruit or your sleeping on the couch" I'd probably just eat the fruit.0 -

LMAO my husband said .. " oh I can understand why.... hhhhmmm thats a great idea.. in bed all week watching basketball and having the wife tend to my every need" LOL MEN!!!!0 -
A friend of mine (38 with 3 kids already) at work had this done not too long ago... he had it done on a Friday morning, and made the mistake of thinking he was okay to take a hike on Sunday. Needless to say, he was in extreme pain for the rest of the week. Walked like he was sitting on a melon down there. Haha! I, very evilly but also jokingly, challenged him to a race. It was funny. He smiled. :laugh:0

i had it done about a year ago after our third child was born. definitely get frozen peas and use them religiously for the first few days - and plan to take it easy for at least a week. definitely do not hit the gym.
i felt the tugging in my stomache during the procedure. that is normal. make sure the doctor asks you if you feel anything more than that before they start the procedure. they had to give me a second shot of local anethesia before starting the surgery as the first shot didn't numb me enough.
i am not sure if it is normal, but for about three months afterwards even a slight bump to the nuts would feel like a full-on karate kick to the nuts. something to be aware of.
lastly, if i was divorced i don't think i would have done the procedure. you might meet someone new who wants kids...0
