Nutella

Hello! A friend of mine who is trying to get into eating healthy told me she has been incorporating Nutella into her meals, I hear it's pretty unhealthy for you b/c of the amount of sugar and being processed. Would most people still be okay eating it or try to stay away?

I don't avoid foods due to sugar content or the amount of processing they've undergone. I look at them in the overall context of my diet. That is what counts -- not any one particular food.
Does it fit into her nutritional and calorie goals? Then it's part of a healthy diet.10 -
You can always make your own with sugar free sweeteners.1

A healthy diet is balanced and varied. No foods are in themselves healthy or unhealthy, it's all about dosage and frequency. Healthy eating is a healthy diet, paired with self-trust and a relaxed attitude towards food. Demonizing foods, food groups and nutrients is the opposite of a healthy attitude to food. Neutral information and critical thinking is invaluable in order to have a healthy relationship with food these days.13

Same here.4 -
I avoid it because it's yucky.
But you can eat anything you want for weight loss, as long as you stay within your calorie limit. Caveat: That doesn't mean eat like a *kitten*. Health is important, too. But mostly nutritious foods with a few treats is certainly ok.5 -

I don't have it in my house for the same reason I don't have a box of See's in my house! I will polish it off!4

I have it sometimes on pancakes or waffles. Not really often. Even though I'm trying to gain at the moment. I do have ice cream almost everyday though.2

I use to have a teaspoon of it as a snack. If it fits within your calories and you like it, why not?3

Nutella is delicious. I'm too cheap generally to buy it, but it is delicious.3
-
I've used it. I don't consider it a "healthy" food, but I enjoy it sometimes, so why the heck not?
Then again, I don't subscribe to the idea of removing foods or food groups, just generally eating healthy, fresh, whole foods and moderation in other things. I can eat all the things, just not all the time3 -
I eat whatever fits in my calories for the day1

A teaspoon? How do you stop at one teaspoon?9 -

Fun fact: Nutella is like the exact same thing as those tasty Ferrero Rocher chocolates. Sooo...it’s basically chocolate truffle filling, lol. Seriously. It’s the same company.2

It is calorie dense. The end.2

I hate nutella, but like ferrero rochers. I'm complex.9

I like both, but Nutella is produced by a candy maker. The first time I tasted Nutella I stole a bit from SO snack, I was shocked and asked him why he was eating Ferrero truffle filling0
-
I've never had it, and certainly i'd prefer a nut butter/chocolate combo to not have sugar and oil as the first 2 ingredients, but I dunno ... it seems fine to me, if it is within your calories, and you're meeting the rest of your micro nutrient and macro needs.0

Yum! Nutella!!!
Look if it fits in calorie limit, go in peace. Unless you have a specific issue like diabetes and even then it can be incorporated.
Of course Nutella isn't as easy to fit in. It isn't celery or watermelons. Too much is not gonna fit your budget.
I am also not my friend's food police. If asked my opinion I open up MFP on my phone and talk about how foods can fit in my plan or not.0 -
Nutella is safe. I do NOT have Nutella in my house because I cannot control my binge eating with it. That is to say, I promise myself scads of impossible cardio exercise later for a jar of Nutella and my crackers today.2
-
I love Nutella so much I can't have it in the house because I lose control.1
-
I think straight up frosting has the same nutritional profile. Don't kid yourself.5
-
Another vote here for "love Nutella, but I have no self control so I don't buy it". I think if you can fit it into your calories and not continue to spoon it out of the jar (like I do), then enjoy your Nutella!2

Hate is too strong a word but I definitely dislike nutella. It has a gummy tar-like texture and is entirely tasteless to me.
More importantly, 1 tbsp (or 100 cals) of nutella contains 6g fat and 11g sugar. That's 54 cals fat and 44 cals sugar, which means it's 98% fat and sugar.
I'd rather eat a Snickers bar, which tastes far better, for an almost equivalent amount of fat & sugar plus an extra gram or 2 of protein when compared w/2 tbsps of nutella.
A peanut and jelly sandwich would also be an excellent caloric substitute. LOL!
