My leg got injured for the past 10 days. Before I lose around 18 lbs in two months. Now I cant exercise because of the injury. I was doing half an hour power walking and half an hour strength training. Now my question is can I still lose weight in that rate without exercising? Pls advise. But still I am counting my calories with food scale.

I'm sorry about your leg hole u have a speedy recovery!!
I don't know your height your weight measurement or body fat. However I really am a big fan of Keto. Last month as I've started I haven't been able to exercise so I've strictly lost weight by going on the ketogenic diet (high fat, extremely low carbs and low to moderate protein). It's also about restricting your calorie intake. If u goggle keto calculator u can type in your numbers and it will give u how many calories and the macros u should be eating in order to lose weight. Oh and drink loads of water but I'm sure you know that24 -
Yes, you can lose weight without exercise. MFP is set up to give you a calorie deficit through food intake, and eat back any exercise calories. Now heal well.9

Weight loss is actually only about the calorie deficit. If keto helps you create the deficit, good for you, but it isn’t for everyone.
OP, as stated, you don’t have to exercise to lose weight. But depending on your injury, you may need to eat at maintenance to allow your leg to heal.11 -
Excising plays a very small role in weight loss. During my 45 pound weight loss i've gone from exercising/lifting daily for a month, to taking 3 week breaks and only maintaining diet, and there's always no noticeable difference in weight loss. If CICO is to be believed than it makes perfect sense and there are studiess that back this up (most claim weight loss is 80% diet/20% exercise). Exercise doesn't burn that many calories, but eating less puts you in a much larger calorie deficiency.
This is how I see it:
Diet = Weight loss. Exercise = Health. Lifting = Toning.
All 3 play a part in overall health and weight loss, but diet is at least 80% of where your weight loss is going to come from. You can lay in a bed 24/7 and become very skinny.6 -
Thank you very much TheDon2018 for your concern and thanks to all of you for the quick replies and advises. I am clarified.2

The best exercise is to push one's chair away from the table.8

Although I'm not a big proponent of diets, I DID try one, once, that worked well for me: The Sonoma Diet. On The Sonoma Diet, I didn't exercise, at-all, for a month, quadrupled the amount of fats that I was eating (albeit healthier fats like olive oil and avocados), and lost 38 lbs. The 1st 10 days on the diet were a bit of a struggle, but after that, I never felt hungry. There were some tasty meals in The Sonoma Diet Cookbook, too, so you might want to check both out. Wishing you a speedy recovery with your leg.10

Hey girl, don't.. Not at any point did I say it's the only way of doing it.. I gave a suggestion something I find easy enjoyable and love to do. Some are actually more carb sensitive than others... and the biology behind restricting carbs, and lowering insulin levels and getting into ketosis which results into so many great things. There's way more benefits that I just can't be bothered to type that aids fat loss on another stream then a regular deficit and mental clarity and keeps your hunger at bay.
To think that it's ONLY about a deficit is such an UNHEALTHY view especially when not elaborated on further.. that being said there are many ways of doing your calorie deficit and different styles of eating lifestyles diets etc.
But in the end no, only a calorie deficit, that insinuates I can go eating a snickers bar once a day lose weight and have all my organs and mind functioning properly..30 -

Hey girl, don't hate cause u ain't about the keto lifestyle. Not at any point did I say it's the sole way of doing it.. I gave a suggestion something I find easy enjoyable and love to do. Some are actually more carb sensitive than others... and the biology of restricting and lowering insulin levels and getting into ketosis. But in the end honey no, it's actually NOT only calorie deficit, that insinuates I can go eating a snickers bar once a day lose weight and have all my organs and mind functioning properly..
It really does boil down to calorie deficit though.. that's why they say you can eat anything as long as it's 1200 cals a day in order to lose weight. I'm using 1200 cals as an example because it's what most people default to on MFP based on their stats, including myself. I could eat 1200 cals worth of snicker bars a day, everyday, and lose weight. Will I function normally? Probably not. But I'll still lose weight. I think most people have enough common sense not to do that though.9 -

This is the right answer. MFP gave you a number of calories to eat. Eat that and you'll lose weight. Include a good amount of protein and fats for overall health. If you added exercise, you can eat more. If you don't exercise, stick to that number. But I agree with @malibu927 that it may be better to eat closer to maintenance for a bit to let yourself heal. Feel better soon!

Long as you keep to a deficit you should be fine. Just make sure you change your activity level in the profile so it can adjust your calories.0

Same here. I am so unhappy. i gym at least 3 times a week. Cardio and strength training, I've torn my meniscus and MCL in BOTH knees. I am now having to get used to a small calorie amount, rather than eating them back all day.... sad times. Here is to a speedy recovery.1

9 pounds a month is actually an aggressive rate of loss unless you have over 75 pounds to lose. So unless that is the case for you, might want to slow down your loss, especially while you are healing from an injury.0 -
Yes, you can. Good luck on your recovery0
