How much should 1 person have on a daily basis?
Just looking at my reports for the past 5 days...it would seem to me that I eat A LOT of salt - not knowingly!!
Looks like I should be paying attention to that..thinking that could be a big factor to my weight loss.

I am over by a lot most days. I don't really think it has much impact on weight loss except for water retention but I'm not an expert.0

Great question- thanks for posting! It really makes me mad how so many foods have 'hidden" sodium!0

it depends on your age and health. if you are healthy and under 50 you should have no more than 2500. if you are over 50 and/or have HBP or other health issues, they say 1500. it's hard for me sometimes to stay under 2500!!!0

2500 mg is the limit most recommend. And it is difficult because there is sodium everywhere!!0

I have to be careful with my sodium, I bloat up really quickly. I added track it in my food diary, and was able to make changes to reduce my daily intake. MFP says 2500mg a day. If you eat a lot of processed food, then you will go over quickly. I don't know if it inhibits weight loss, but I do know it aids water retention and high blood pressure.0

If you are eating a lot of processed foods, your sodium is going to be high.
Eat lots of fresh fruit, veggies and protein and you will reduce your sodium.0 -
I think it is, my setting is set at 1400, I average about 1000 a day. I don't retain water and bloating my blood pressure normal, and I'm losing weight more You should check with nutritionist to see what your daily balance is0

I try to keep mine to around 1500mg (there are some days that I indulge, like on my birthday I went over 6000! =O) a day. But I have high-blood pressure/hypertension. My last 2 doctors visits have been very positive, though.. in that my BP was only 103/64. So eating low-sodium is definitely helping!0

The latest gov't recommendations limit daily intake to 2,300: http://1.usa.gov/aFyVtY
It's a very good idea to change your MFP settings so that sodium is one of your tracked nutrients:

I too BLOAT up very quickly with lots of sodium. I drink alot more water to flush it out if I have had a large amount of it.0 -
It is crazy how much sodium is out there. I very rarely eat processed foods, I can't imagine what my intake would be if I did!!
I used to go nuts with the salt shaker but have learned to put that down...thank goodness!
This week my goal will be to watch that!0 -

Agree. It's definitely much more of concern if you have high blood pressure. And it is definitely hard to stay in a low range if you tend to dine out or eat processed items.0
