So tired of the underhanded jabs.

I've heard for the last time 'You used to be so fit.' I'm committed to changing my lifestyle and leading a healthy life. For my sake, and my son's.
Finally admitting that I've put on 70 pounds in the last 4 years was hard. I've been lucky enough to form a support group with my work family. Would love to have support here as well.
I'm super excited about this journey!

Best of luck, kick *kitten* and take names. Your son is learning how to live his life watching you.1

Thank you!0

How rude! I'm not surprised that people will say such things, but it never fails to disgust me every time. Best wishes as you work off those 70 lbs!2

Yeah, people suck!
Do it for you, but if you can use some of that anger to help motivate you then go for it. When you get to your super fit self, just flaunt it at them and make THEM frustrated!4 -
All I can say is people are *kitten*!
We all go thru stages in our lives....you are now working on a new stage.
Confront when someone makes a lousy comment. Just let them know they are rude and need to say nothing to you if they can't be nice!3 -
This journey is so much more than weight loss.
It is one of courage, strength and growth.
You are going to find, you will find your voice.
Stand up. Express your opinion.
Trust the process. Take it a step at a time. A day at a time. You CAN do this.0 -

Thank you so much! And I agree, this journey is about overcoming all the obstacles I've been faced with the last few years or so.0 -
I have lost like 27lbs and someone I had not seen in a while said " I did not recognize you, you look so beautiful." Ummm WTF3

Ugh. Humans.
Anyhow, glad you're making a positive change for yourself! You got this!1 -

They're going to feel pretty silly when you get into the best shape of your life after this journey! Not "if", but "when"! And when you do, promise me you'll show them some class and be graceful about it0

Such a veiled insult! I don't understand why people feel the need to put another person down just to build themselves up. Every time I hear someone say 'I'm just honest' I want to say 'No, you're just an *kitten*'.
Great work by the way. Keep doing you!1 -

I like your attitude!!! Lol! And yes, I always try to think before I react. Doesn't always happen but in this case, yes, I'll have them eating crow as I watch from a distance. In grace and class!0 -
use their comments as motivation to prove them wrong2

Anger and vengeance are never the path to a happy life whether you lose weight or not.1 -
There will always be critics. Several people I work with have been rolling their eyes and making rude comments because I have worked hard to lose weight and be healthy and they are struggling. You can't please every one!!!!
My weight has yo-yo'd most of my adult life. Maintaining a healthy life style is not easy. Just pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and start again. Tune out the nay sayers and the critics and do your thing...You've got this!!!!

Love this....its mine now!2 -
I've struggled with my weight for the last 25 years, my parents and inlaws being my most vocal critics. Never understood why the people who are supposed to love you most are the most cruel.
Anyway...I do my best, and have come to realize that what they have to say is irrelevant, and I've since told them that if they can't be supportive, then to keep their traps shut and keep the snide remarks to themselves.
My husband is my biggest supporter, my kids, being a close second. They are who keep me grounded when I'm having that bad day.
OP, I'm glad your work family are there for you! Support makes things so much easier!
Have a wonderful day1 -
a quote I always keep in the back of my mind - no one can make you feel inferior without your consent - Eleanor Roosevelt
I ignore people who are dicks because I won't let htem influence how I feel about myself and it has helped in the past2 -

They think they're being constructive and honest but people need to learn that unsolicited advice or criticism is more hurtful than helpful. If your opinion is asked, then yes, please be honest. Otherwise like you said, keep your traps shut!
Here's to you!

Ladyhusker39:
I kindly disagree. I don't think he's telling me to take the path of anger and vengeance. He's telling me to take my anger (frustration) with the veiled insults I've received and use it to my advantage. Use that as motivation to reach my goals and have the last internal laugh. Let's face it, appearance can be altered, but if they're ugly on the inside, what can you do to change that?
