Is anyone here do slimming world?
I suggested to my sw leader that I would calorie count and I’ve received nothing but negative comments. Anyone else?

Your Slimming World Leader who makes money from subscriptions is trying to talk you out of using a free service instead, what sort of reaction were you expecting?

I wasn’t expecting a reaction, I was asking my slimming world group if any of them have calorie counted alongside following the plan especially on food that sw say are “free” like potatoes and pasta and noticed they had better weight losses. And it all went from there not just from the leader but from other members of my group

I think a lot of people who have tried MFP in the past have not used it properly (I used to be one of these people), people set goals that are far too aggressive for them, don't really have an understanding of how the calorie goals are calculated and don't log accurately which leads to them being overly restrictive and on an unsustainable short term diet.

At the end of the day whether you are doing Slimming World or Calorie Counting the weight loss happens because of a calorie deficit, you just arrive at it using a different method of counting. Similar to what is mentioned below for Weight Watchers.

Just like they'll tell you not to exercise using weights because they claim it makes women bulky (thus putting most women completely off the idea).

It's just another load of nonsense designed to slow down your weight loss and keep you signed up longer.

The only time a woman will properly bulk is when doing strength training AFTER losing excess body fat AND adding additional protein and carbs to their diet to feed the bulk. Normal weight/resistance training alongside dieting does no such thing.

The table shared by @tinkerbellang83 clarifies it: You lose weight on any of those diets because of the deficit you create. But as you lose weight without reducing your calorie intake (because you lose weight you need fewer calories) you will eventually plateau. And that is when WW/SW stops working, but they will use it as a way to get you to continue your membership.

A friend of mine does Slimming World and he tells me some of the horrible misguided rubbish their consultant tells people when they haven't lost or have made a small gain, the woman hasn't a clue how normal healthy weight loss works!

Calorie counting is not part of the slimming world plan, if you find the social aspect and the face to face support worth the money you can always count calories but keep quiet about it! The nonsense that the leader came out with was enough to put me off but that was only one group, yours may be better .

This is what I was intending to do still follow the basic rules of slimming world which is pretty much very low fat and no sugar and still attend the group for the support networks and to get weighed, I should have just kept quiet about it but as they are my support group I felt I could talk about it. Apparently not as I’ve had crap messages from the leader since I mentioned it on our Facebook page

If you just want somewhere to weigh in and chat to people about your struggles there are weigh in groups here, I have one - http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/118368-weekly-weigh-in-group

There are also a lot of groups/discussions for ex WW/SW members who have transitioned across.

It's bang out of order for them to be sending you sh!tty messages too.

That group leader sounds wonderful... Sending you messages on FB? Block the female dog. You don't need that sort of batpoo behaviour in your life: You will resent going to a group led by someone with that attitude.

I mean, with friends like that... :ohwell: MFP is a great support community for me. Bonus points, it's free!

Try changing the batteries and keeping them in the same place on the flattest surface you have. Or better yet buy some new ones with the money you can save on your SW subscription lol.

If you calorie counted you wouldn't need SW, and they'd stop getting your money.

This is my day so far. Do I need to meet my calorie goal for the day? With around 1000 calories to eat till i reach this goal it would be taking me way over a whole weeks worth of “syns” on slimming world resulting in a big weight gain if I done it everyday.

I don't know what 'syns' are but I'm guessing something like WW points? The beauty of MFP/calorie counting is that calories are king. Macros, micros, and nutrition in general definitely matter but I don't have a care in the world about having a spectacularly off day (as pictured below) every once in a while because I know it isn't going to stop me losing weight. You won't gain weight fat if you eat fewer calories than you burn for the week, syns or no syns. Your body doesn't know what a syn is any more than I do

Adding to my previous post - yes, you should meet your calorie goal for the day. That's why it's called a 'goal'! I'd be somewhat cautious at taking the 1200 calorie activity adjustment at face value, but you have at the very least another 1k calories to enjoy, provided what you've logged is accurate!

frankly your group leader should be being reported to whoever she answers to.
sending *kitten* message to a member of her group is completely out of order.

id be leaving too, if they cant even have a conversation about calorie counting without taking your head off what sort of support group are they?

"yes we will support you as long you agree with everything we say and never think anything other than what we have told you"

I actually hate SW, Iv never tried it and never will, what makes me angry is the facebook posts from friends and family "yay 6lbs down this week" "yes! another 5lbs will be at a stone down by week 4"

WHAT? they clearly are not teaching anything others that fast weight loss which is not healthy, these are also the friends and family who 6months later have re gained all the weight after taking a week off to go on holiday.

my sister in law started calorie counting after doing sw (lost loads / regained) but her idea of losing weight is way off track because of what she thinks she knows from SW.

so she set hereself a 1400 goal......never eats any exercise cals back and tries to stay under that goal when she can.
so some days could be netting 700cals then wonders why she goes to pot and binges

anyway, lol you shouldnt have to baisically be bullied by grown adults just because they didnt agree with somethin you asked them about

This is taken over from my Fitbit, my Fitbit says I’ve burned 3541 calories today. I’m taking the 1200 calories transferred from my Fitbit to here are my calories burned by being at work on my feet and walking today.
Everything I’ve logged is accurate all weighed out and logged in. I’m so worried I will gain fat by eating treats for 1000 calories.

I would discount the fitbit adjustments and verify what i see happening on the scale. What I mean is only eat back say 500 calories of the 1000 calories. then over the course of a month see how my weight loss trends compared to my goals. Do they match up or am i losing faster than i should be? if i'm losing faster I can eat a bit more of them back, if i'm losing slower, i discount it a bit more.

While helpful, fitbits and other monitors are only guesstimates and they all have their flaws. Typically they can be off by quite a bit and you don't want to over eat trusting it. So do the opposite, and don't trust it until you can verify it with what is happening on the scale.

I wasn’t going to eat back any calories from Fitbit unless I really felt like I needed too, will see what the scales say doing it like this if I’m loosing more than I entered in here a week I will eat back a % and see how it goes. X

    Hold on.

I was going to confirm that your rice count was for cooked rice and not dry as this is a common issue with new people when it comes to weighing rice given that the nutritional values for dry vs cooked are quite different.

But then I noticed that All you have eaten is rice a yogurt and some veggies?

I mean even if you weighted your rice uncooked (it would be worth about 2.5x more calories then) you would still be way short of anything reasonable.

And where is your base fat intake and base protein intake (let's not even get to 2x RDA a person losing weight might want to pursue!!)

How long are you planning on lasting on ~0.6 cups of rice (cooked cup would be closer to 180g or 200g), a yogurt, and the veggies one would graze on while cutting up their salad?

Is this the eating they are preaching at sliming word?

    Yeah.

You'll get results for a short time.

Then give up and binge regain.

I had a packet of savoury rice and just scanned the packet onto here, it said on the packet it was for the rice made up so I’m assuming cooked, I had lunch very late today almost at 3pm so didn’t want to eat a huge meal ahead of my dinner, for dinner I had steak, chips, and veg.
Yes I guess this is the way I have eaten on slimming world for the last two years.

I didn't spot the steak or chips in the picture of your log I saw. Hence my impression that you had extremely little food.

Check your package. Is the portion size the complete package? In Canada it often is not. Database entries (in general, not necessarily for your rice) have to be verified before fully trusted. :(

Condiments, milk, juice, etc, should also be logged if pursuing a complete accounting.

Many people are, of course, successful with partial as opposed to complete accounting though the potential margins for error increase.
