If I walk a mile and put it in under exercise and my calories recalculate is that double dipping because my steps are being counted as well and adjusting

    Yes. If you're already having your calories adjusted by a step counting app, then the walk you took was already factored into your calories for the day

    Yes...if you're doing steps and have a device synced, it's going to account for that mile...to log it again would be double dipping.

    If you're doing steps and syncing, the only exercise I would log separately would be non step based...

    Yeah, if your MFP is already synced up with tracking your steps, don't bother inputing it. I personally have mine linked to MapMyFitness, so as soon as I log a walk there, MFP gets updated as well.
