I'm not surprised. It's vegan "cheese".6

Sorry, I'm of no help to your question. I don't know what non-dairy cheese is, but it's not "cheese" and should be given another name.9

Treeline Cheeses FTW. Easily. For crackers and cheese. But if you're taking about cheese for pizza or nacho cheese then everyone has their favorites but Daiya and Teese are liked.0

fo something easy to find. daiya.. i think treeline tastes horrible. pure abundance is in atlanta and its delish.. also u can make ur own..1

I like GoVeggie and I've tried their cheddar and mozzarella shreds as well as a smoked provolone sliced variety. I have hated Daiya since it came out, the texture just didn't sit well with me.0

Well, I suppose American Kraft Singles are not actually cheese, although it will state on the wrapper to have milk in it. I've also wondered about Velveeta cheese. Another modified cheese product. These are lower in calories than the real stuff. Probably because they are manufactured cheeses?1

Eew, no. From my experience, I'd rather go completely without than eat non-dairy cheese. It's all horrific, IMO.5

I wouldn't be surprised if you said the kind you tried was Daiya, they are by far the grossest of all. It has this weird sweet chemical taste to it.
I love the Toffuti slices, mild flavor and melts/strings great. Follow your heart/Earth Island is a good second choice, I find it kind of thick though. It's a bit more of the 'jarred' nacho cheese consistency.
I've heard good things about the Violife and the Chao brands, but I haven't tried them yet. My samples are coming this week
ETA: I heard so delicious has a shreds blend now, but they're not available where I live yet0 -
Find vegan cheese in the vegan dairy section next to the vegan eggs. That's not just a bad joke. It's a bad way of thinking of doing vegan.
I'm going pull out a quote which may or may not be attributed to Napoleon Bonaparte. "If you're going to take Vienna, take Vienna."
If you're going to be vegan, be vegan.
Don't pretend.9 -
Tofutti Better than Cream Cheese is pretty decent. And I can marinate tofu to simulate feta or crumble it for a lasagne and it'll pass for ricotta. But as far as fake cheddar, mozzarella, etc... Daiya when melted isn't bad but it's not the real thing either.0

I like the field roast chao slices and miyoko's kitchen for softer cheeses.0

Chao Cheese and Miyoko's Kitchen is the best, IMO. Kite Hill has some good stuff as well.
You can also make your own -- "Artisan Vegan Cheeses" by Miyoko Shinner (behind the Miyoko's Kitchen brand) is a great introduction.0 -

Are you vegan? I'm curious as to why you consider vegan cheese a "bad way of thinking."
If someone wants to replicate a flavor or texture they enjoy, what's the harm?5 -

Yeah I'm having to go dairy free for 6 weeks under my doctor's guidance to rule out a medical sensitivity, I love cheese but kind of want replica's whilst I'm doing this so checked out this thread. There's lots of reasons people want alternatives, nothing wrong with it for any reason, people like cheese.4 -
Kite Hill is good.1

Kite Hill cream cheeses and ricotta are amazing! For hard, Dr Cow has really good nut cheeses.0

the best vegan cheese i've had is pimiento cashew cheese. it's not like slices or shreds, more like for macaroni and cheese or like a dip or sauce. it's really good but you have to make it yourself in a blender. i've never had a vegan store type cheese that was any good.0
-
Follow Your Heart makes good non-soy pepperjack and mozzarella.0
-
Where can I buy that pimiento cashew cheese? Sounds good, I’m also vegan and looking for non dairy cheeses0
-
Oops I see now that I have to make it!!0

Vtopian Artisan Cheeses has amazing vegan cheese! All other vegan cheeses kinda suck. They’re located in Portland, but you can find their cheeses in food co-ops around the PNW, and you can also order them online. I definitely recommend trying them.0 -
I love So Delicious’s cheddar shredded cheese and it’s pretty avalible check their store locator online.0

I've been lactose intolerant my whole life so let me lay some truth down here! Life dairy free is rough!! I have learned to pretty much live with it and avoid all dairy/cheese but if I get a craving for cheese, I have a Pinterest recipe for mac and "cheese" using cashews and nutritional yeast. It is absolutely amazing as long as its seasoned correctly and you don't expect it to taste like cheese. I don't buy any of the vegan cheese just cause it tastes like chemicals to me.0
-
chao and miyoko's are my two favorite vegan cheeses. Chao is much more readily available (more so than even daiya in supermarkets near me).0

hmm i live in atlanta and I don't think i've heard of pure abundance. What stores carry it? I don't think i've seen it in either whole foods or publix (the two stores I usually shop at).
edit: but apparently my local whole foods carries it.0 -
Kite Hill is very good. The vegan cream cheeses overall are most like the real stuff. I use daiya mozzarella on pizza (small amount just to get a cheesy flavor). The daiya cheddar makes a pretty good grilled cheese and ham sandwich. I have a dairy allergy, so I can't have the real stuff anymore. 10 years in, I rarely eat even the vegan cheese. I have learned to substitute hummus, avocado, roasted red peppers, or cashews to get the richness cheese provides in dishes and sandwiches. Once you quit cheese, you realize just how often restaurants use cheese as a shortcut to add flavor to pretty bland foods.0

I have tried them all. They all suck. None will ever come close to cheese as we love. I have had some cashew spreads that are ok but, none for replacing on burgers, pizza and pasta bakes.
On the bright side giving up dairy has been like a fountain of youth for me. My skin and hair are amazing.0
