Eating 1000 calories a day?

Hi,
I’m a 23 year old pre-t ftm who’s roughly somewhere between 5’1 and 5’3, and my SW is roughly 200lbs (my scale broke a few months ago). MFP gave me a calorie goal of 1500 to lose 1 lb a week. So far, my lowest day was 893 calories (I️ ate a banana after I️ finished my diary to bring it up to just over 1000), and my highest is 1065. I’m not purposely trying to eat so little, but I️ eat mostly fresh fruits, veggies, and plant based foods (I’m 100% vegan), so I️ guess they aren’t that high in calories. Is this sustainable? Or should I️ try and eat more food to lose weight?

Yes, of course you should eat more than that!
But more importantly, how at 23 years old do you not know how tall you are? Seriously.23 -
It's not sustainable. You need to be eating waaaay more than that in order to give your body adequate nutrition. Eat to the number MFP gives you, use a food scale (you'd be surprised how much difference there can be) and weigh everything you eat. And make sure you're getting adequate protein, you're going to want that to help preserve your lean muscle.7

Avocados are plants. Eat an avocado or two each day until you have a handle on this, because this is not going to work.9

This is not sustainable. You need to eat as close as you can to the calorie goal MFP gives you without exceeding it. By undereating, you risk not getting all of the nutrients your body needs.5

If you are finding it hard to get in enough calories, you can try eating more calorie dense foods. Avocado was mentioned above, nuts as well. The low consumption you are currently taking in is likely missing needed nutrition (including not only calories, but also fats, protein, and micronutrients such as vitamins and minerals). I'm not sure where you are in the pre-t stages, but when you are ready for surgery, you want your body to be able to recover as quickly as possible. Part of that will be ensuring that your diet is nutritionally balanced. Could you work with a registered dietician (not a nutritionist) for some guidance?7

you're not eating enough you will put your body into starvation mode and will stop losing weight try to add some protein like peanut butter etc into your diet otherwise you will get frustrated.60

Cook up a pot of quinoa or rice, and throw in a can of beans (whichever you like)
rice and beans , or rice and peas, etc, makes a complete protein, google other variations!!
my fave is chickpeas, pinto and black beans . rinse then well first though to remove the gassy stuff!
im vegan ans struggle to stay under 2000 cals, yesterday i had 40008 -
You're 200 pounds as you said, so in order to get to that weight you probably weren't eating 800-100 calories, so you don't have to do that now either. I'd reccomend heading to the doctors office figuring out your height, and changing your rate of weight loss to 0.5 to 1 pound and eat the calories mfp suggests good luck!!!
Btw if you don't have a food scale I'd reccomend getting one.12 -

Starvation mode as you are using it here is a myth. It just doesn't happen that way. There are many good reasons for not eating as low as OP is eating, but this isn't one of them.22 -

The last time I️ was measured I️ was 10. I️ know I’ve grown and inch or two since then, just not sure precisely how much. I️ know I’m really short, I️ just don’t see the point in knowing my height too precisely.

Because in order for MFP to give you as close to an accurate number as possible, it needs to know your stats.15 -
Op...please measure how tall you are. Have somebody help you if you don't know how

Holy crap! 4k and you dont gain?? Lucky!0 -
greyphan your body will use 600 to 800 of cal a day for maintenance. the heart (the muscle that works 24 hours a day) will take the protein first to repair itself. IF THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TO REPAR ITSELF IT WILL SCAVENGE THE PROTIEN FROM YOUR MUSCLES! you body is literally eating it self. this is way people that ate the rabbit diet(salad's) gained weight. You will loose weight because of this but because carbs are not used to repair they will be store as fat and you will gain weight a little latter. you will loose carbs burning muscle. this is a vicious circle that you do not want to be in! I do not know what diet you are on but I think I would re-think what you are doing. if any thing please increase you protein to at least 75 grams. best to you

Have you not been to the doctor since you were 10? Every time I go to the doctor I get my weight, height, blood pressure, blood oxygen, and pulse, at the very least taken. I mean, this is all part of your medical file.14 -
You are not eating enough. The lowest calories for you is 1,500 - 1,800. When I first started losing weight I would eat 1,700 calories a day. I'm now down to 1,450 calories a day and considering upping it again. But yes, you need to up your calories in order to lose weight.7

I don't know if you were raised Vegan or have just begun that journey. You need to get some good nutritional education. Eat every color fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and beans. Be sure to eat enough fat and carbs.MFP keeps track of all that for you and you can see if you are getting enough of the vital nutrients to keep your body healthy. Fresh air, sunshine and exercise are your friends. Wear sunscreen.6

Eating under 1200 cals is not enough even with you being 5ft. Your body will not be getting all the nutrients it needs on those calories. Add more calories to your day by way of nut butters/nuts/avocado etc all which are more calorie dense and will make it easier to reach 1200.2

Everything everyone told you is true, you need to eat more. I’m vegan and know that you need to eat that avacado, if you don’t get enough good fats in your diet, your going to feel lousy!!4

I don't recall the doctor taking any of those measurements in the ~3 times I've been since I was 16. They weren't relevant to the problem at hand so I wouldn't expect them to take all that time to do it!
OP, maybe trying drinking some calories if the problem is that you feel full - almond milk, or a smoothie with seeds/nut butter etc. But keep at it until you find something that works for you. Also make sure you're logging accurately and not actually eating more than you think you are.4 -
Almond milk is typically quite low in calories. Peanut butter (or any nut butter) is a good option - calorie dense and a good source of fat and protein.1
-
If you don't like avocados, eat some pb&j. You might feel fine for a while at 1000 calories a day. Until you don't. And it takes a while to come back from the don't.4

Skimmed through comments so apologies if this has been said but are you weighing the food. Entries like 1 Apple, 1 bannana or a handful/cup of nuts etc. Can be vastly off. You could be eating more calories then you think of this is the case.2

Since the OP hasn’t transitioned yet 1200 is fine.
OP, as others said please eat more. You’re setting yourself up for muscle loss and a host of other health issues.6 -

No. You need to up your calories to get proper nutrition. You can lose weight (faster) by eating 1000cals. It is just not healthy.5 -
OP, you need to eat at least your minimum calories. You have done so in the past, if not you would not be over 200 lbs.5
-
What kind of doctors do you folks go to? No matter what I go in for, the first thing they do is put me on a scale and weigh, and then take blood pressure.
I am also confused by the OP. If all she eats is 800-900 of fruits and vegetables calories, how did she get to be 200 lbs.??16 -

I’m a very different person than I used to be, I️ used to eat a lot of processed foods and take out.3 -

I call bull.
I find it very hard to believe that you have not been measured since you were 10, and it's laughable that you think you've only grown an inch or two since you were 10, and you're not 23.10
