Hi,

I've lost 14 pounds so far. But a little worrying losing muscles. I don't know wearing a Ankle weight is a good idea or not. I am planning to running 10 floor stairs 1 or 2 time a day. Since I lost 14 ponds, I want to put 5 pounds ankle weight on each leg to make up my lost pounds.

Will this help me build some muscles especially on my legs? or this will harm my joint?

thanks,
Jue

It should help with strength training. Any type of resistance does.. just make sure it is comfortable enough that you're not straining your joints! Good Luck!

Yes, running stairs with ankle weights on will add added stress to your joints and most doctors and trainers will tell you it is not a good idea. Try doing the stairs without the weights and you should get a decent enough workout.

It's a bad idea. Ankle weights don't evenly distribute weight and can cause injury if you wear them while running, or even walking. They are really only good for added resistance while doing leg lifts and things like that. A weighted vest or belt would probably be better if you want to add weight while running stairs.

Do you already stair climb without weights? If not, do without the ankle weights for a while.

And if you do decide to use ankle weight, I would use them to only go UP actual stairs, never down them. Otherwise, you will experience significant DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) due to greater-than-normal eccentric muscle contractions and will majorly stress your knee and ankle joints.

seems ankle weight is not a good idea. will that be good if I add some weight into my backpack say 10 pounds? I use to do stair climb before I lost weight. I stopped after I realize it doesn't burn too much calories :) . But I think it can help me build my muscles, so I picked it up again.
