I want to lose 60 lbs in 6 months

I used to be a size US 4 but have gained weight due to medication that I have to take every day. I want to get back down to my usual size before I go on an exchange trip to Europe in September.

I have 60 lbs to loose to get back to my size pre-medication days. Is it possible to lose this weight without having to eat as low as 1200 calories a day?

Right now I am eating 1700-2100 calories a day most days and running 5 times a week.

I'm running 2-5 k depending on the day. I'm 24 years old and pretty overweight, and I want to be looking and feeling my best long term and for my trip so I feel more confident meeting new people and making the most of my travels!

I've been steadily losing 2 lbs a week with what I'm doing!

What do you guys think?

I have lost weight doing 1200 calories before, but I felt hungry all the time.

If you’re steadily losing at a safe rate of loss than I would say stick with it

All I know is that cardio is amazing for reducing weight! Good for you for running 5x a week! If you’re running 2-5k on each of those days I would not go down to 1200 a day. It seems that 1200 a day is for super sedentary people. You might lose 10# a month doing what you do. It really depends on your particular body & how it holds onto weight. GL!!!

You are losing at a good rate but as you get leaner, your weight will slow down. On average, a goal of .5-1% of your bw per week is a good rate.

Also, id recommend adding in some resistance training. It will help with muscle retention which helps with body fat reductions.

Good job, trying to lose that way has it's own cons, mainly your knees take a pounding when you run while obese.

Absolutely not healthy with your stats, unless you eat exercise calories back.

The 60 lbs is arbitrary and I wouldn't let it stress you out. It sounds like you've got a solid plan that's working well. Stick with it and be happy with whatever weight you lose by your goal date.

This is the best course. Also remember that when you add resistance training (especially heavy - for you - with progressive overload), you may be heavier and slimmer when you get to your size 4 than you were the last time.

With the strength training, your goal may not actually be 60 pounds.

And as @psuLemon says, it will be much harder (and do more harm than good) to lose at that rate once you are closer to "goal".
