Step Aerobics in barefeet

Hello,
Do not think this is right, but I started a step aerobics class last week followed by insanity class, and the soles of my training shoes are black which I was told were not allowed on the floor as it would mark it. I was then asked if I had any other trainers but said no I don't so was told to do the class in my barefeet. I told them my trainers would hardly touch the floor if it was step but that was the rules apparently. I asked to keep socks on but that was not allowed either and as I had paid at the desk it was barefeet or no class. I went barefoot feet at the end but stayed at back of class so nobody would see me. Anyway the insanity class followed 15 minutes later so I put my trainers back on as it was a different teacher but again was told that my trainers were not allowed, I said that there was no way I was going barefoot for insanity but again was told that they had to follow the rules of the venue. I felt pretty mortified as it was a pretty large class and got some funny looks as well as my feet getting stared at. Has anyone else done any of those classes barefooted as I don't think it was very fair.

Well, why would you be upset?
You didn't know, they told you the rule and you had the choice to participate, change shoes, go barefoot or not participate.
Now you know. Wear white soles next time ::shrug::

I was upset because I never knew the rules until I was ready for the class and I also had no other training shoes to change into, maybe if they had a notice up telling people about black soles it would help. But thanks so much for your friendly answer.0 -
I did insanity at home barefoot.0

yeah, I got that you didn't know.
But why were you upset, for real? Same workout with or without shoes. Were you embarrassed because you were barefoot? Why? Do you think people were staring at you?
I really don't understand, I'm honestly asking. If that had happened to me, I probably would have left and come back on another day...was that an option? See, I think you held all the power here and you are feeling helpless when it isn't necessary.0 -
Same workout with or without shoes you say, but then you go on to say you would have left and came back another day ?????. Contradicting oneself is not smart.
I never left as the class more or less had started when I was pulled up about my footwear, and yes maybe you should try those classes barefoot as it was not very comfortable.0 -

By the way I never said I was upset in my original post, that was you who started that one, I simply thought that the ruling that they had should have been made clearer which would then seem fairer.....shrug0

I'll bet that rule was in your paperwork when you joined and you just didn't look at it or didn't see it.shonaisastar wrote: »Same workout with or without shoes you say, but then you go on to say you would have left and came back another day ?????. Contradicting oneself is not smart.

You would not get me in group exercise class if it was the last place on earth to exercise.
My point is that you are grousing about doing it barefoot. WHY? Embarrassment, fear of injury? What's the thing you are posting about? Discomfort? You were free to leave at any time.
This type of thing happens all the time in life. If you can't roll with it, then life is going to be really difficult, that's ll I'm saying. In the scheme of things, this is a really minor PAST event.
You had the power all along.

I just bought me a step deck and found lots of videos on YouTube. How do you add this as exercise?0

I like group classes. I do a bit of barefoot cardio and barre as I'm in the gym 6 days a week and have worked through several injuries. I used to wear the ribbed yoga socks but they stretch. I ended up getting the 5-finger Vibram shoes for barefoot classes. I like them a lot!0

Your complaint seems to be that this was embarrassing. I know a lot of people who have walking around in barefeet, and your request to wear socks makes it seem like this is probably the case for you.
In that case, you need to learn to take care of yourself in comfort level, as well fitness. You had options, you chose to stay, you chose to try to circumvent the rules for the second class.
For future reference, most places ban marking shoes. There are dark non marking soles available, but it shouldn't be up to the teacher to have to monitor footwear, so I imagine they are told to look for dark shoes.0
