So you’re the person who flagged us all - and for not being nice enough? Then why didn’t you also flag the OP for not being very nice about their friends, or about people who don’t do keto?11 -

This was a bit of a social experiment. I’m fascinated by how people cling to their dogma. Food and religion seem to really bring out the nasties. I’ve shared my unconventional success with other venues and this is the only one that I’ve been meant with so much vitriol.

This is ironic considering the condescending attitude toward your friends that you shared in your original post...18 -
Great job on your weight lost, you found what works for you and you stuck with it..5

In my long experience of the internet, “This was a social experiment” == “I am a *kitten*”
If you don’t want to be met with vitriol (since when has ‘vitriol’ meant ‘people pointing out that you’re wrong’?), then maybe you shouldn’t lead off with it.
Life is short and precious, be kind to your friends. And to all the other people who know that keto is not, in fact, the one true solution and that those who don’t follow it will not actually all get cancer and die. (And you claim we’re the ones clinging to dogma?!)
(PS Still losing on CICO. Last week I had a danish pastry and a pie. Mmmm, delicious carbs)19 -
wanderinjack wrote: »Here's the short version of a long story. In 1995 I was 250# with over 35% body fat and those were the least of my health problems. What was more problematic is that I had fatty liver, leaky gut, an intestinal candida infection, diareaha every morning, was highly insulin resistant, had a rash all over my body. The worst part of it was that I was having great difficulty doing what I love most...long distance backpacking.
Since then I've done a lot of N=1 experiments. Got down to 215# and couldn't budge it with all the crossfit and weight watchers etc (getting divorced probably helped the most). The piece I was missing is the calories in calories out model doesn’t work as never has. The problem was insulin resistance. Went full keto in 2014 and got down to 175# and plateaued there even with doing 16:8 intermittent fasting (IF). Last fall I heard the first Obesity Code podcast and started doing extended fasts (EF). Now at 165, 19% body fat and according to Smart BMI I'm smack dab in the healthy zone. I'm 20# under what my drug lord (doc) said was my idea weight. Most importantly I can rock a long sierra trail and climb mt. shasta at will. I've lost 85# and feel great. To me that's a miracle.
I'm very grateful for Dr. Fung for helping me to solve that last piece of the puzzle and that group to have people I can share my success with. This is a really big deal and none of my friends get it. In some chances they literally roll their eyes at me so I just quite talking to them about one of the most significant things in my life. Which essentially means relationship over. I fully expect this will piss people off here but sharing my experience in hope that a few people with but a little dust in their eyes may benefit. Very sad about that. Like a recovered alcoholic who can't go to the bar anymore and hang out with his old buddies. It's time to move on. Meanwhile they're getting sicker and sicker, heart disease, kidney transplants, cancer, drugs, surgery ...very sad.

Ironic post is ironic.
So you posted a deliberately incorrect misleading and woo filled post in order to instigate responses. You succeeded, and now you're crowing about it. There's a word for that sort of behaviour, but I don't want a timeout.13 -
Are you seriously implying that the reason your friends are going through "heart disease, kidney transplants, cancer, drugs, surgery" is because they don't eat the way you do? As a cancer survivor, let me be very clear: that kind of statement makes it sound like you're a jerk.20

CICO that’s what counts low carb high carb what ever it boils down to calories in vs out so u could of lost that weight by not doing keto and by just tracking calories fitting in so called junk foods etc but good going either way3
-
Oh and I forgot to say I’m a type 1 diabetic have been since Oct 2016 n I’ve got from 16 stone to 12 stone 6lbs currently and still cutting ..and I’m eating junk food every single along with healthy food CICO does work no matter what illness yes it can make it hard but it works it’s just how the body works FACTS4

Congratulations!!! Don't worry about all the haters. I'm guessing 99% (maybe 100%) of them have never read any of Dr. Fung's books (or listened to his podcasts), which means their opinions are worthless. I have read The Obesity Code and I'm a believer. The science IS there and well cited in the book (and all studies used are human studies, zero animal studies.) Just keep on keepin' on and good for you for all of your success!!!!16

No, the science is NOT there, unless you count cherry-picking the facts that agree with the conclusion that you want to present. I don't need to waste my time listening to/reading crap from someone to know that is crap.3 -
Glad you found something that works good for you.. I’ve lost 100 pounds going back and forth between WW and counting calories here.. Still 50 pounds to go but not everyone has to do Keto to lose weight..3

for fung to say that a person who needs insulin can just stop it and go on his diet and will be ok? no you dont just stop insulin its dangerous and can be deadly. we arent haters just trying to stop misinformation about a quack who is a KIDNEY dr or nephrologist. he has degrees in anything else or none that I can find.
he also says its a cure for diabetes. you cant cure diabetes. you can possibly put it into a type of "remission". but many have been able to do this with weight loss and diet alone. many diabetics still eat a decent amount of carbs and have no issues. he claims insulin treatments are harmful(tell that to a type 1),
if insulin issues is what made every fat person fat then we would all be able to eat lchf and be and stay thing. I am overweight and was obese and I have NO insulin issues,no diabetes, nada. I got fat eating way too many calories and moving less. also fasting for some diabetics is a no go as it causes them more issues and for some it can cause hypoglycemia.6 -

Dr Dieter (Deet-er) has a phd in exercise physiology with his dissertation focused on diabetes treatment - he works with diabetics who eat upwards of 3-400g carbs a day and have stable blood glucose levels3 -

exactly. I know how I got fat lol and it had nothing to do with insulin resistance2 -

Interesting article that boils down to this
"Overall though, even if a lower or higher carb diet was supposedly the ‘best’ diet for you, and might provide, in the short-term, some improvements (based on your insulin status), it may not be the best fit for your lifestyle or tastes. When it comes down to it, behavioural factors and adherence to a diet over a longer term are the most important factors for success. So, if you restrict calories by any means, you’re likely to reduce weight, fat, and cardiometabolic risk factors and at the end of the day, you’re going to get the best results from any nutrient-dense, calorie-appropriate diet that you can stick to."
Do You. Eat less overall. Lose weight.5
