I have endometriosis and other that the pain it don't have other symptoms. How can it affect your weight? As far as I know it is just tissue from the uterus spreading to other internal organs like intestines.

The hormonal changes associated with menstration can greatly affect water retention/bloating which can cause noticeable weight gain for women with endometriosis and those who don’t have it.

Personally, my own weight can fluctuate around 3kg each cycle and the visual difference is astounding. Attached picture of my premenstrual hormonal bloat which can pass for pregnancy. hxu1nh2l16a1.jpeg

I don't want to offend but this picture is ... shocking! I'm really sorry you have these issues! I'm glad I don't.

My weight fluctuates by about 1kg or 1.5kg at most. I do bloat a lot. But not as much for sure.

But just to be clear for the OP - it is just water weight. It has no effect on fat loss or gain or metabolism.

I tend to bloat a lot. I have pain very frequently. As well as bladder and bowel pain. It's also can make me feel terribly fatigued which makes me want to eat more. I feel hungrier when hormones feel out of control. The pain can also make it difficult to work out. It's kind of lame all the way around. Thank you for sharing and responding whether you have the difficulties or not. :)

@crackpotbaby Mine gets like that too :( Plus I have chronic constipation so I pretty much very often look pregnant.

OP, I "apparently" don't have endometriosis but I have terrible pain from what I assume are fibroids or cysts. My weight goes up so high I really have to stay off the scale. I weigh myself a couple times a month.

Working out during a period is out of the question for me. My treatment is only painkillers (4 different meds all in all 18 pills a day) because I can't take contraceptives and it barely curbs the pain. Even walking is an issue for 5 days every month...
Bowel/intestine pain is predominant for me. So I don't eat foods which can cause any gas. I also don't eat hot foods around that time.

I honestly can't wait until menopause!

But don't worry about any scale gains during period. It'll all be gone when it is over.

There’s a little posture and angles at play in this picture, but yeah ... my hormonal bloat can be pretty gross.

Even though it’s not ‘fat gain’, I’m sure people can understand that this kind of hormonal weight gain - even if it’s just cells holding onto water - can affect body image and make a person feel like they are having a fat day.

I bloat up 5-7lbs on my period. I don't have fibroids but the women on my mother's side do. My aunt had one the size of a grapefruit and had to get it removed.

I went on Mirena to help manage my endometriosis and it changed my life. I used to be painfully bloated for days every month. I even had an acquaintance “congratulate” me in public once and I had to correct him. It was beyond embarrassing. I’d also be down and miss work with terrible pain.

I also have hashimotos so I still find weight loss challenging. It does happen but slower and I needed to cut about 200 cals a day from what this site wanted to give me

Oh okay. Sorry I sound like such an *kitten* about this stuff but I've never had a good doctor. I've had so a few sonograms and pelvic exams and they've seen nothing so I guess they're not fibroids.

even cysts can be seen on an ultrasound . to see uterine fibroids they have to do whats called an intravaginal ultrasound to see them. regular ultrasound for me didnt pick those up but did the cysts(but I suppose it could be different for others and depending on size). if you think you have these issues see a gynocologist.

I have endo and PCOS too - I feel your pain (literally!) The bloating is one of the worst parts for me (ignoring the pain aspect  ) I can go from basically flat stomach to looking at least 7 months pregnant within the space of 20 mins or so.
