Pepsi Max - does it stop you losing weight

I am currently doing 16:8 and eating under 1200 calories in my 8 hour eating window. Would the one can of Pepsi max I have daily be stopping me from losing weight? I go to the gym 5 x week with a combo of weight training and cardio plus work out at home in the mornings at least 5 times a week. Keen to hear your thoughts.

No.
Weight loss is about calories. Ingesting zero calories does not stop weight loss.3 -
Why do you think it would stop you from losing?1
-
Because of the artifical sweetners and chemicals?13

No.
The artificial sweeteners and " chemicals" will not stop you from losing weight.3 -
It's that evil dihydrogen monoxide, they're even putting that stuff in the water supply.7

What about the sodium bicarbonate? Oh noes2

Ok thanks all. Just read a lot of conflicting stuff already and wanted to get some more thoughts on it.0

There's tons of bad info around. You where smart for asking and not automatically believing what you have read.
Just remember this- weight loss comes down to a calorie deficit. As long as you create a calorie deficit, you'll lose weight. The foods you pick have no bearing on weight loss, it's the calories that matter. Don't sweat the small stuff, don't believe the hype. Things like artificial sweeteners and carbs stopping weight loss are all common dieting myths. I know you didn't ask about carbs but figured I mention it too. Continue to ask questions, that's how we all learned!

Might I suggest eating less than 1200 calories a day while exercising 5 times a week is a terrible idea?
Between the two things mentioned: Pepsi Max and your self-flaggelating diet I think it is the latter which is much more likely to cause you harm.
Eat more.9 -

Which is why you shouldn't get your information from the internet or if you do at least avoid the .com's covered in ads.1 -
Yeah, I quit smoking a couple of years back, but they will pry my Dt. Dr. Pepper out of my cold dead hands...not giving it up!

Thanks Aaron. 1200 calories is a shitload of food! I usually only eat between 800 and 1000 calories per day so i am trying to hit 1200 but can't fit it in. I'm supposed to eat 1200 to create a calories deficiency.7 -

How is 1200cal a "shitload"? And how big a deficit are you trying to aim for that the rock bottom minimum for women is your daily goal?5 -
Does it have calories? If not, then no.0

No, it’s not a lot of food. It’s the bare minimum calorie amount for women. What are your goals - to lose weight? How much weight? Clearly you didn’t get to the point of needing to lose weight by eating less than 1200 calories per day. How accurate is your logging? Do you use a food scale?5 -

Yeah... what @WinoGelato said! It's not usual for people who need to lose weight to have got there by being unable to eat enough. Which is why such statements tend to be met with a certain amount of disbelief.
Have you changed your eating habits radically and are filling up on low-calorie stuff like a ton of veggies, so that you don't feel like you have room for more food? Are you weighing all your food and choosing correct entries in the database, to be sure you're really eating that little?
If you're genuinely struggling to reach 1200 (and you should be trying to reach at least that, unless you're very short and sedentary) try adding some of these foods:

And to answer your original question - no, your flavoured water, which is basically what diet sodas are, won't be stopping you from losing weight.
