Anyone else unable to exercise?

Just looking for friends who are on a big weight loss journey but can’t exercise for whatever reason. I’m not lazy btw! I have some chronic health disabilities and they limit my movement particularly through my pelvis. Won’t bore you right now explaining but I basically need to lose a lot of weight to be able to have major surgery on my back and pelvis. Anyway I was wondering how you guys are successfully losing weight with limited mobility? Any hints and tips as I am hitting a wall right now with it all. Thanks

It's about what you eat.
What does your dr say?2 -
Me too, and yeah it sucks. I used to run half marathons & 20 mile mud runs, as well as go climbing, boxing, kayaking & horse riding, then a 4 year chronic illness left me unable to even do gentle yoga or walk upstairs without getting out of breath. Currently trying to lose the 2.5 stone I gained, even if you stick to your calorie allowance it’s disheartening to see you’ve done less than 1,000 steps in a day, but just thankful to be here!5

I also have chronic health disabilities and unable to exercise (in the general sense), in a wheelchair, most of the time. But it is still possible to lose weight, may sound simple, but its true (although not necessarily easy). For weight loss you need to eat fewer calories than you burn, to help your health balancing nutrition and healthier foods with an occasional treat, to keep you sane. Building new eating habits, that continue through maintenance, to prevent future weight gain.
I have learnt that tracking and logging, everything I eat, everyday no matter what, has helped me through the good and the bad times. Through difficult times I have increased my daily calorie allowance to maintenance, rather than giving in and stopping for a while. Some days, I may go over my allowance, but I still log. It has been a slow but steady weight loss, and I've discovered a way of eating, that suits me, my life and my health conditions. This has also helped me learn a calorie target range, for me/my life, by looking at my data.
I started tracking on MFP in June 2014, lost some weight but then stopped for a while. This taught me the importance of accurate logging daily. I restarted MFP in April 2016, on the 8th April, this year I will have an unbroken streak of 2 Years.
I'm female, 50 years old and have additional health problems, as well as my physical disability. I started with a bmi that was obese, but bordering severely obese. I have just hit a "healthy bmi", which may be at the top end of the healthy range, but I'm really pleased with my results. Losing an average of 1lb per month, over the past 2 years.
Some people give up and I've had many people question a slow weight loss, (saying that only losing 1lb a month is not worth all the hard work). But I know its far better than gaining weight. It's not possible for me to exercise, to burn additional calories. I needed to learn habits that would see me through maintenance (for life). Its not just about weight loss, but about a healthy lifestyle as well.
My current stats
Running streak @705 days,
Total weight loss: 3st 3.8lb (45.8lbs)
Completely changed blood test results
SW: 14st 3lb
CW: 10st 13.2lb
Continuing with the same plan, to see where my weight loss settles, before making any further changes. So yes weight loss is possible, if you put in the work. If you would like a friend, for mutual support, send friend request. Hope this helps.6 -
Was just reading and came across this. Just wanted to say keep up the steady great job. I was pretty impressed with your sticking to it!!2

For two years I was lying on the floor trying to get a bulging disc in my back to get into place without surgery. The only "exercise" I was able to tolerate was traction! Anyway, you can lose weight by counting your calories here on MFP. It worked for me and I reached my weight loss goal.2

I can't either, I've got a spinal injury and lots of joint pain that is still not under control. Exercise leaves me unable to get out of bed for several days, even a trip round the supermarket (in a wheelchair) exhausts me to the point I have to sleep afterwards.
Trying to lose 135 pounds and I started in late October. So far I've lost 21 pounds but I've been stalled for since January and feeling very disheartened. Not quite sure what I'm supposed to do next as I'm eating just over half my TDEE per day (1200 of 2300) and nothing is happening. I can't really cut down more as I'm already only eating one meal a day, but I can't exercise either. I do have thyroid issues though, not sure how much that is effecting things.1 -
Exercise is nice, but not necessary. I've lost 120 pounds since last April and (particular while losing the first 100) exercised very little in that time, other than whatever walking I do during the day.1

I have some limits on my ability to exercise - but I everything I can to the ability that I can BUT my diet is mostly what determines my weight bc I really do not exercise as often or as deep as it would need to be to burn excess cals. BUT the movement regardless of how restricted builds muscle AND helps keep the body as healthy as it can be.1

I've been recently diagnosed with spinal stenosis and it's brutal at times. I'm still able to exercise some but not near as much as before. Therefore, I've had to be much stricter with my diet. Following The Wild Diet, sort of a modified paleo diet and it works for me.1

Thank you. I’ve not heard of that before so I will read up on that diet. I’m in so much pain tonight it’s 4am and I haven’t closed my eyes. Taken all my meds so it’s a case of wait until it passes. Sorry to hear you have pain issues too.0 -
A good thing is that weight loss is influenced mostly by your diet, mostly. Good luck and I hope you receive a lot of support from this site.1
