I've gained a significant amount of weight since starting wedding planning last June. I didn't know how much things would change during this process! I'm freaking out about my wedding dress fitting since I've gained my weight. My alterations appointment is in 7 weeks, and I need to lose 20+ pounds fast! Need help! I'm hoping this app will help. Does anyone have any extra tips or suggestions?

I'm not sure 20lbs in 7 weeks is doable.
The general rule is it's safe to lose 2lbs a week at the most. You can do that by weighing and measuring all your food, being more active and just in general making better lifestyle choices.
I'm also wanting to lose 20lbs before my wedding but it's in 3 months, so 12 weeks and that leaves me room to lose 2lbs a week or a little less now and then.
Good luck! Start by logging everything you eat and GETTING ACTIVE! Go for walks, multiple times, take the stairs, park far away from the store front, just move!1 -
You are not going to lose 20 pounds of fat fast, that's just for morbidly obese people. Fast weight loss isn't going to be healthy weight loss, the risk of lean muscle mass is greater.
1200 calories (before exercise) is the recommended minimum calories here for women. That number will help you meet nutritional goals. For you that may be 1.5 pounds a week or 1 pound a week.....it depends upon your current size.
Do the best you can (in a healthy way).....and invest in a good pair of Spanx.

2 pounds a week is a good rate of loss when you have more than 75 pounds to lose. 2 pounds a week is a 1,000 calorie deficit......not healthy if your TDEE is just 2,000 calories.

I've always been more than 75lbs overweight so I never considered weighing less would mean you have to lose less just because of the math. Thanks for clarifying that just in case OP is a smaller lady.1 -
OMG! When ordered my wedding dress I was TERRIFIED to gain weight lol. I was still thinking I would lose weight anyway, but they told "its easier to take away fabric, than to add!!! I didnt lose many lbs, but someone suggested I, a week before my wedding that I try it on just to see how it fit, and OMG i had to take off quite a few inches!!!
Anyway, I don't know if you will lose 20 lbs in 7 weeks but it is definitely doable, depending how much you weigh right now. If you are really determined, cutt off carbs about 90%, dairy and sugar. Drink water, eat protein, veggies, and get a little workout in.3 -

cutting carbs will only result in water weight loss and glycogen stores being depleted. its not going to make weight loss any faster. neither will dairy or sugar. and 20 lbs in 7 weeks is only doable if the OP is obese and has a lot of weight to lose otherwise it wont be a healthy rate of loss.1 -

But it sounds like at this point she just wants to lose lbs and fit into her dress. It is very doable if she completely stops eating bad (assuming she's not watching what she's eating). I have a friend who recently did these things, she wasn't obese but she wanted to start losing lbs, lost 15 lbs in 3 weeks. I lost 6 lbs in l.5 weeks (i'm on week 3 right). It is very doable if she cuts back on those things, for now.

So you're saying you want to crash diet to lose 20 pounds quickly for your dress fitting? Even if you were able to do that, you'd be extremely likely to put the weight back on before your wedding day. Are you sure that's what you want to do?
Wouldn't it be wiser to hold your weight steady where you are now until after the wedding then start working on a reasonable rate of weight loss once the big event has past?
I'm having visions of you getting to your wedding day and your dress being 2 sizes too small. That would be a nightmare.2 -

cutting back on those things wont make her lose weight unless it creates a deficit and to lose a big amount of weight you would have to have a very large deficit. when you first start a diet a lot of the loss will be water weight with some fat. but you cannot lose fat that fast. your body can only burn so much fat a day. 5 lbs a week is NOT healthy unless you have more than 75lbs to lose.
the most an obese person should lose is 2lbs a week unless under the care and guidance of a dr. The less you weigh the less you should be trying to lose as the bigger the deficit the larger the loss is going to be and along with that will include lean mass including muscle. if she only has 20 lbs to lose she shouldnt be trying to lose more than half a lb a week if thats all she has to lose.
just because your friend did this doesnt mean its healthy, eating bad has nothing to do with not losing weight. anyone can lose if they are in a deficit no matter what they eat? is it healthy? maybe not but trying to lose too much too quickly is not healthy.its also not sustainable.2 -
Hey everyone! Thanks for all of your replies. I've been doing the Paleo diet for a couple of weeks, now. I have more energy, which I great, but I also don't have a scale at home to monitor my progress, so I don't know truly what's going on with my body right now. I take my dog for about 3, 35 minutes walks a day and am working on drinking more water and also doing some weight training. I don't need to be down 20 pounds really in 7 weeks, but I know my fitting and alterations are then. My wedding is 6-231

Actually, since all this angst is about fitting into a dress, a tape measure is better than scales, not just better than nothing. That fabric has to stretch around the circumference of OP's various body parts, which a tape measure will assess better than scales. The dressmaker measured OP with a tape measure, not with scales.1 -

I get that but she said she had no scale. so a tape measure I should have said is the next best thing instead better than nothing. but its still better than not being able to use any tool besides looking and seeing if she sees any changes,(sometimes you cant see the changes though). But with a scale if water weight goes down that too may show a bigger loss than the tape measure may. But yeah I would measure. I do my measurements just to see where they are just for the heck of it.0
