tea with splenda

I drink a lot of ice and hot tea with splenda. I decided that maybe I should start logging my liquids. When I looked up tea with splenda, some people had put in 38 calories for different amount. Others had 0 calories. I have just started back with MFP and don't want to mess up my weight loss by consuming something that might keep me from losing weight. Any thoughts?

38 calories seems like a lot unless you're having one of those mega-giant buckets of unsweetened iced tea, or are using a Splenda-sugar mix. I would say it probably isn't more than 10 calories total for a 16 oz serving.

There are a lot of erroneous entries in the MFP database.

Tea is a zero calorie beverage and Splenda is zero (or near zero) calories. Labeling rules in the U.S. allow manufacturers to call it zero calories if it's less than 5 calories per serving, so it could actually be anywhere from 0-4 calories per serving.

One packet of Splenda is 4 calories, so if you're using packets to sweeten individual cups you can add that

true, but that depends on how many you're adding.

i personally count the calories/carbs from splenda or other non-nutritive sweeteners using a bulking agent (like dextrose) as 3.5 calories per packet.

    Yes, this ^^^

Those bulking agents irked me so I switched to liquid sucralose as my sweetener.

True that. I can't use more than one packet per 16 ounces of coffee. That stuff is wicked sweet!

It is extremely sweet! My husband makes my teas for me since he is retired and I am still working. I can't complain because I appreciate his help.
