I was wondering if you guys had any easy, tasty, and simple additions to brown rice. The package says butter (no thanks)and 1tsp of salt, and 1/4 tsp is like 400mg! I was thinking maybe red pepper flakes? Idk..help! PS i didnt start cooking so it can be added during cooking or after.

Have you tried cooking it in broth?0

Sometimes I use a can of low sodium chicken broth when cooking stuff like that. Otherwise, I eat it plain.0

low sodium veg, chicken or beef stock, onions, garlic, any other spice like pepper flakes...0

Use Mrs. Dash seasoning or italian herbs & Seasoning and low sodium chicken stock.0

I eat it plain...sometimes I add Sriracha (1tsp = 5cal, 100mg sodium). Every once in awhile I'll use it in stir-fry. I saute some onions and garlic in a teeny bit of sesame oil, and then add the rice, some soy sauce, and an egg white.0

mix in sauteed spinach, red and or yellow pepper and some garlic....chopped mushrooms etc.
cilantro and fresh squeezed lime juice0 -
I cook it in chicken broth, used Mrs Dash and sometimes chili powder. I also added Hormel Real Bacon Pieces the other day and it was fantastic.0

I have a steam pressure rice cooker that i make brown rice and beans (red and black kidney), then I put them in containers and store in the fridge (it's cheaper to cook at once and then nuke the rice). However, I pan fry mixed veggies and chop some onions with either black pepper and/or mrs dash's no salt added or no salt spices. It is still a bit bland so I add some sesame seeds (not a lot but enough for a texture change) and then, if i can afford the calories, a nuked potato (small one) sliced up and then fry that into the pan. When everything is cooked, I mixed the rice and the rest together in a bowl. It's nutritious and filling. If you mix the rice in the pan, the pan ends up gummy with rice and it is harder to wash (I do not use oils when frying).0

I have to have salt in mine, for sure. I add garlic, onion, bell pepper, any seasonings I have handy. For a tasty mix, sautee onions, peppers and celery (if you like these) add your water and rice, cook till the rice is soft, then add a can of tomatoes (I like the Italian kind). Depending upon how much I make, I may add half a can of tomato sauce if I've made two cups of dry rice. I eat this mixture plain, stuff bell peppers with it for stuffed peppers, put it in a pita pocket for a tasty sandwich.0

Me too! I love the natural taste of brown rice...so rich and nutty. Sometimes I'll slice up half an avocado on the side to have along with it. They really compliment each other.
Never tried with avocado with it, I'll have to give a try. Sounds so delicious.0
