Intermittent Fasting + IIFYM

Hey, everyone!
So, I’ve tried IF before and IFFYM, and didn’t see the results I wanted. I’ve lost a little over 15lbs. the past few months, and broke over my barrier of 230. So, if you’ve down IF+IFFYM, how have you done it successfully. Also, what about coffee during the day? I’d love some feedback and some new friends! Add me! Thanks!

IF is just a lifestyle thing and does not do anything magical in terms of weight loss. IIFYM will always work if you stick to it, but you have to set your macros right and adjust them as needed. I am 100% sure this is where your problem lies. As for coffee, it is a great tasting drink and has nearly no calories. It helps you wake up and can suppress hunger. Nothing magical there either6

What kind of results were you hoping for?2

That’s good.
I wasn’t necessarily looking for magic. I just plateaued at 230, and could not drop under it. I was expecting to lose 10-15 by doing IF combined with IIFYM, but just stayed at that number. However, I did seem to tone up more? And on the coffee, I wasn’t thinking anything magical, more on just how drinking it on an empty, fasting stomach, correlated with energy during the day or if there was any effect.
Basically, I’m looking for tips, pointers, what you’ve seen work and what not. I’m at 214 right now, I don’t work out much, but would like to drop below 200. I’m also just interested in the entire method itself!
Thanks in advance!0 -
Intermittent fasting is quite the fad right now and there's a lot of mystical magical claims being made about it. It's nothing more than an eating pattern which helps some people with satiety and compliance with their daily calorie goals. Other than that, there's no magic to it. You lose weight by consistently consuming less calories than you expend, period.
The best way to do that is to use a food scale to measure your solid foods and measuring cups/spoons to measure liquids, track your intake as accurately as possible and meet your calorie goals consistently.
Coffee - it's a zero-calorie (or nearly so) drink. It has caffeine in it, which some people find helps blunt their appetite somewhat. It's also a very mild stimulant. It has no significant weight loss properties other than that, and what time of the day you drink it (or whether it's in a fasted state or not) is irrelevant (except for personal preference).
Don't major in the minors and make things more complicated/difficult than they need to be - concentrate on what matters, which is your calorie intake.4 -
Magic IS just that, things that are outside the realm of logical cause and effect.
If you're eating in a calorie deficit, you will lose weight. If you're not losing weight, you're not in a consistent calorie deficit. Your calorie need drops as you lose weight, so you might need fewer calories to still be in a calorie deficit. You may have to tighten up your food logging at this point. You will definitely have to be more patient. Weight naturally fluctuates, but if you're in a consistent calorie deficit, you will eventually see the drop on the scale.2 -
Thanks, everyone. This is good info!0

Hi, I intermittent fast and have lost about 9lbs in around 9 weeks, so it's consistent. I find it helps me stop snacking also makes me think twice about what I eat. I really don't find it difficult at all and suits my lifestyle. I will be honest, I think the loss is slow but again a loss is a loss.0

A lb a week isnt that slow and the less you have to lose the slower its going to be. fast weight loss doesnt always mean healthy weight loss either for many.0 -

Ive done IF before and honestly I just liked how I felt and it made it easier to stay within my calories since essentially I'm now only eating 2 meals. I felt like I had more energy, which was strange since I didn't have anything to "wake me up" in the morning. I am going to try to go back to IF starting tomorrow along with a keto diet that I'm testing out for 2 weeks to see how I feel without any carbs/sugars. I already don't really have much, but to cut out fruit will be a tricky thing for me. We shall see...
Along with what another user said I think it's important to check your calories burned throughout the day and how many you are consuming to make sure there is a deficiency there. Do you have fitbit or another activity tracker? That has been great for me to see my activity throughout the day/calories burned.0 -
Sorry to hear you did not get the results you wanted, here is how I did If/IIFYM. I wake up drink a liter of water first thing, go about my day and wont eat till 1pm, and I stop eating at 7pm. I eat 1800-2000 calories a day, and excersise either at night or before my first meal depending on the day. I have done IF since April 16th 2017 and started counting calories around July. I have lost 110lbs so far, so if you have any questions feel free to ask.1

try it out for 2 weeks? to enter ketosis for some it takes time. 2 weeks will probably not be enough to see how you feel there is also the keto flu that is possible in the first 2 weeks. keto is not NO carb/sugar its low carb, high fat and moderate protein. most do 20g net or less of carbs others do 50g net or less. some can do more depending on their activity level. the thing with keto,IF or any other way of eating you need to make sure you are getting enough calories too. its also easy to overeat doing IF/keto.
as for exercise,if you are using mfp to get your caalorie goals it doesnt include exercise your deficit is already built in. so exercise will just be a bigger deficit which is why they say eat back at least half of your exercise calories.if you are eating to your calorie goal you ARE in a deficit whether you exercise or not.0
