Food Failures

We’ve all had those bright ideas that just didn’t turn out as well as hoped.
My latest fail was Greek yogurt mixed with PB2, chia seeds and bananas. Not too bad, but I mixed up two separate containers, with the intention of adding banana to the second one right before I ate it. Well, there were no more bananas, and the combination of PB2 and chia made the yogurt into a stiff glumphy paste. Not very good.

I just poured the freshly made chocolate tapioca pudding into the bowl I just had eaten spinach soup from17

i am currently in the process of making extremely pathetic shriveled up sad carrot fries. Aparently baby carrots dont work well at all, No skin to protect moisture loss and the cuts had to be to tiny to begin with. My large bowl of veggies is now a tiny sad little pile4

I made a beautiful creamy tikka masala sauce... then thought "Hmmm, I'd like to add a bit of sweetness!". Dumped 2 tsp of Truvia into it and tasted it... waaay too sweet. Argh. On the bright side, it seems to have mellowed out quite a bit now that it's been in the fridge overnight.3

I was making soda bread when I realized my baking soda was way too old for baking, so I googled it and found the ratio to substitute baking powder. Then I got the bright idea to add some agave to make it a little sweet. Nope, nope, nope. The outside was a rock and the inside was gummy, it was not a pleasant experience.3

I mixed vanilla protein powder and frozen blueberries into my plain greek yogurt for breakfast this morning. When I tasted it, it was way too sweet. Looking for something to make it edible, I added powdered strawberry lemonade drink mix. It was so bad.
But it was all I had packed for breakfast, so I ate it.8 -

Adding flour to sauces to thicken it - but forgetting to dissolve it in a little water first! Just makes the sauce full of tiny, flour, lumpy GROSS5

Sometimes I add a little bit of coconut extract to my smoothies, and one day I was out so I decided to add a squirt of pineapple orange banana Tang water enhancer. I added way too much, it was vile.1

I add cacoa powder to my Greek yoghurt then add some fresh fruit and nuts. Yummo.0 -
Greek yogurt + fresh Kiwis
Sour and a gross consistency.
My cooking teacher would be disappointed in me. She repeats the old mantra "no kiwi or ananas with milk" pretty much at every lesson. I know why now...4 -
Baby formula in my coffee. Trust me, it's NOT good5

I was completely doubting my oven abilities as oven fries would turn out burnt on the outside, yet half raw on the inside. Same with cake and bread. Turned out my oven was broken and running with at least 40 degrees C more than I set it to.1

Baking soda goes bad????
I don't know if it goes bad necessarily, but I've found that baked goods don't rise as well when you use really old baking soda. So I will use the older boxes for cleaning instead. In hindsight given how terrible my bread turned out I probably would have been better off sticking with the older baking soda.1 -

Or grapefruit. I tried that one in my greek yogurt once. Ew.3 -

Well, my chocolate seized today does that count? I surprised myself because I'm hard to upset, and this upset me.6

A hug from me. Anyone would be upset by that.1 -

I grabbed the wrong spoon to stir the melted chocolate. A freshly washed one which had water on it. The chocolate was for this sad bunny on the left. I didn't even put effort into that because I was upset. But I'm fine now because the baked milk turned out perfect.

Oh my, but that all does look yummy (even the sad bunny)!

I made baking powder biscuits recently. For some reason I grabbed baking soda instead of baking powder. Yeah, those went in the trash.3

Most overnight oats. 'Tastes like brownie batter' they say. I don't think we make the same kinds of brownies.
Cauliflower 'alfredo' and rice. I like cauliflower but just no.
Anything using chia seeds. Barf.
Most baking recipes using 'healthier' substitutes. Just ends up dry and gross.5 -

? My smoothie breakfast that I have several days each week has 4 oz of kefir and a whole banana, along with other stuff, and everything plays nice together.0 -

What blasphemy is this.2 -
My worst ever was something called "Chippy Fish" - fish fillets battered in a crumbled potato chips & mayo concoction. I thought it sounded different yet promising, but it was just wretched. This was years ago and not a healthier recipe, obviously.
Dorie Greenspan cookie recipes are normally on point, but the Speculoos were a waste of time & ingredients.
Overnight oats aren't my thing either. I have tried several different recipes/varieties. I do like to prep Greek yogurt with some oats, fruit, maybe a little ground flax or chia seed, and then mix & eat in the morning. But when it involves more liquid, the oats take on a pasty weird texture I do not like and I feel like I can barely choke it down. Yuck.0
